Hey there, I know this might be, or probably is a long shot, but I was wondering if there's anyone that wants to join me for a short road trip for the weekend.

I'm a Korean male (40, married) who came back home for a brief week on some family business. Now the business is taken care of--no, it's not an euphemism, no worries--I myself have a couple of totally free days on my hands. So I rented a car, and was going to hit the road, but got no plans or anything that could possibly have a semblance of that.

So, I wondered if anyone wanted to join me for the weekend and explore here and there. (And maybe you could chip in the gas money and parking fees, if possible?)

If anyone's interested, drop me a line anytime.

If you're up for a quieter route, head west toward the coast instead. Incheon's Songdo area has a nice boardwalk and the Central Park where you can rent a bike, and it's way less crowded than the usual weekend spots. For lunch on Saturday, grab some jjamppong at Sinpo Market in old Incheon, that area has a proper street food vibe without the tourist markup. The drive back to Seoul through the coastal highway is about 90 minutes, so you won't be stuck in traffic all day.

the south side suggestion is solid but if you want something even more chill try going southeast to Icheon and Yeoju. Icheon's famous for its ceramics and you can actually try throwing a pot at one of the workshops for like 15,000 won no reservation needed on weekdays. Yeoju has the Silleuksa temple right by the river with a cool brick pagoda that's pretty unique for korea. drive time is about an hour from seoul and the highway rarely jams up that direction. grab some Icheon ssal bap at a place called Hangaram near the terminal, it's simple but the rice there is legitimately the best I've had

I'd say your best bet for a loose two-day itinerary is heading northeast toward Gapyeong. The drive along the Bukhangang River is pretty nice this time of year, and you can stop at Nami Island if you want a quick ferry ride without the full tourist chaos. For Saturday evening, I'd book a table at a makguksu place in Chuncheon early, because the popular ones like Myeongga fill up fast with weekenders. Just keep in mind that parking near the lake areas can be a headache, so the rental car is more useful for getting between towns than for hopping between attractions.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
