바오바오 @ Bukchon Hanok Village in Seoul: Does this store sell Beauty of Joseon fakes?

Hi everyone, I went to Bukchon Hanok village and there was this beauty store called 바오바오 at this address: 1 Bukchon-ro 11-gil (서울특별시 종로구 북촌로1길 1 .

I bought a whole lot of Beauty of Joseon products there. Now I wonder it they could be fake because the store was not an official distributor of Beauty of Joseon products. It was very clearly a tourist shop. I was not informed that these shops do sell fakes in South Korea, that's why I bought the products.

Do you know of this store sells fakes? Thank you very much in advance!

ngl that area is full of small shops selling k-beauty to tourists and most aren't official distributors. 바오바오 is one of those spots that stocks a mix of legit and parallel imported stuff, not necessarily fake but not from the brand directly either. if you already left, you can check the batch code on the beauty of joseon website or ask their official instagram to confirm. for next time, olive young in jongno or insadong is safer and only a 10 minute walk from bukchon

Those tourist shops in Bukchon are a gamble. I've seen 바오바오 around and it's definitely one of the more obvious tourist-oriented spots, not somewhere locals would buy their daily skincare. The bigger issue isn't always fakes, it's often old stock or products that have been sitting in the sun by the window, which can mess with the formula.

If you check the batch code and it looks legit, the products are probably real but might just be less fresh. For future runs, the Olive Young near Anguk Station exit 2 is your best bet, it's a bigger store and they rotate stock fast. You can also check the Beauty of Joseon website for their official offline stockists in Seoul.

i know that store, it's right near the anguk station exit 3 side and yeah it's mostly a tourist trap for skincare. the packaging on beauty of joseon stuff from those places often looks identical but the texture or smell can be off, i've heard people say the serums are more watery. if you still have the receipt, you could try comparing the batch number on the box with the one on the bottle, mismatches are a red flag. for peace of mind, pop into the olive young in jongno 3-ga, it's like 8 minutes from bukchon and they always have the full range with official stock

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 15 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
