What are the best travel hacks to save on transportation expenses in seoul?

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

The Seoul city bus network is actually pretty efficient for covering gaps the subway doesn't reach. If you're going somewhere like Bukchon or the area around Gyeongbokgung, hopping on a green village bus will save you the uphill walk from Anguk station. Just tap your T-money card when you get on and off - if you forget to tap off you'll get charged the maximum fare for that route, which is annoying. Late at night after 11pm, the N bus night routes run every 30 minutes or so and cost the same as daytime fares, a lot cheaper than a taxi from Gangnam to Hongdae.

If you're planning to hit multiple attractions in a day, check if your destination is within the "Seoul City Tour Bus" route near Gwanghwamun. It's 12,000 won for a day pass and stops at places like Namsan Tower and Insadong, which can save you from paying individual subway fares between each spot. The T-money card also works for the "Ddareungi" bike rental system, and the first hour is usually under 1,000 won if you return it to a station every 30 minutes. For longer distances, the KTX SRT train from Suseo station to Daejeon or Busan is cheaper than the regular KTX and often overlooked by tourists.

tbh the subway transfer system is where you save real money. if you tap your t-money card within 30 minutes of getting off a bus, the transfer is free for up to four rides. that means you can take a bus to a subway station, hop on the train, then take another bus at the end and only pay for the first ride. just make sure you tap off the bus or you'll get charged full fare. also the AREX express train from incheon airport to seoul station is 9,500 won but the all-stop train is only 4,150 won and takes like 10 minutes longer, worth it if you're not in a rush

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
