So I went to a sports massage place closer in the city and it was clothing on and not exactly what my body needed.

Is there anywhere I can get a (normal) massage? It is very, very difficult to get a proper massage with the sauna clothing on.

Hope that makes sense!

The clothing-on thing is standard in Korean spas, so you're not crazy. For actual deep tissue you need a place that advertises "마사지" without the spa/sauna attached, ideally one with a proper massage bed instead of the heated stone floor setup.

I'd look for clinics near Gangnam or Hongdae that list "스포츠 마사지" and specifically mention "오일" or "딥티슈" in their menu, that's your cue they'll have you in underwear on a table. I've used a spot in Yeoksam called 마사지랩, runs about 90k for 90 minutes, and the therapist there actually uses elbows and forearms, not just light palm work.

One thing to check before booking: ask if they provide disposable underwear or if you should bring your own, some places are more conservative about it. Also worth confirming they're not a "건마" place, those are a different thing entirely.

yeah the 찜질방 thing is a whole different vibe, most koreans get massages fully clothed too but if u want real swiss or deep tissue you gotta look for a "마사지" clinic that's not attached to a spa. try searching 강남 or 서초 for "스포츠 마사지" and check if they mention "오일 마사지" or "딥티슈" in the booking page, those usually mean you strip down to underwear and they use oil. i've had good luck at a place near sinnonhyeon station called 바디앤솔, it's like 80k for 60 min and the therapist actually digs in. otherwise check the "타임" or "소금" chains, they have proper tables not the heated floor thing

u could try booking through a hotel spa instead, they usually let u wear a towel and do proper oil work. the ones in gangnam near the big hotels are pricier but way less of a hassle.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 14 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
