honestly you were right to dip, that's a classic setup. the owner probably called her to come sit with you and push for more expensive drinks or champagne, then you'd get a massive bill. it's not super common but happens in those high-end empty bars in gangnam, especially near gangnam station or apgujeong.

next time stick to bars that are actually busy with locals, not hidden lounges. places in hongdae or around yeonnam-dong are way more chill and less likely to pull that kind of thing. also if a bar is dead and the owner is too friendly, that's already a yellow flag.

genuinely useful to see krw figures laid out like this, most guides hand-wave that part

one thing i'd add since nobody mentioned it: the arex express vs all-stop thing matters for hotel choice. the express goes straight to seoul station no stops, but the all-stop commuter line hits hongdae, gongdeok, etc. if ur staying in hongdae the all-stop is actually faster door to door and cheaper, like 4,150 krw vs 9,500 for express. people pay extra for express then taxi back out to hongdae, makes no sense

also for myeongdong, that nine tree premier II rooftop they mentioned is real but the standard rooms are tiny, like 18 sqm. fine for solo but two people with luggage is rough. for a similar price the ibis styles ambassador next to dongdaemun history & culture park gets u way more space and ur still on line 2 & 4

nice work putting actual krw numbers on this, most guides just say "affordable" and leave it there. one thing i'd add from living here: the "book 2 to 3 months ahead" advice flips for korean holidays. seollal and chuseok move every year on the lunar calendar and the whole country travels, so hotels in seoul jack up rates & fill weeks out regardless of season. check the lunar dates before you lock anything, 2026 seollal is mid february.

also for myeongdong specifically, the station has like 14 exits and the one closest to ur hotel can be a 10 min walk underground. look up which exit on naver before u arrive with bags, saved me a miserable drag through the tunnels more than once.

the district pricing is pretty accurate from what i've seen this year. one angle nobody's mentioned: if you're staying more than a week, look at residences and serviced apartments instead of hotels. places like Fraser Place Central near Seoul Station or the Somerset in Gangnam do weekly rates that come out way below the nightly math, and most have a kitchenette which saves a ton on food. i paid around 1.1m krw for 10 nights at a residence near City Hall last month, that's 110k a night for a full apartment when the hotel next door wanted 180k.

also worth knowing, a lot of the cheaper guesthouses in Hongdae don't have elevators and you're hauling bags up 4 floors. fine if you're 25, less fun otherwise.
