I personally thought that was pretty cute, and my partner and I are planning a trip here for next year, so I'm wondering if this is still a thing? Or will we look like dated weirdos?

it's definitely still around but it's shifted to more of a low-key flex than a full statement. you'll see it a lot in gangnam or on dates at places like seoul forest where couples match their bags or phone cases instead of shirts. honestly if you lean into it with a little vintage twist it comes off more charming than dated, especially since it's so tied to the city's whole couple culture thing

yeah it's still a thing, just way more toned down now. instead of full matching tracksuits you'll see couples with the same new balance 574s or matching knit vests, that kind of vibe. honestly it's kind of sweet and no one's gonna side-eye you for it, especially if you're tourists

You still see it around, especially in Hongdae or along the Han River on weekends. It's not as common as it was ten years ago, but nobody will think you're weird for doing it. If you want to blend in without going full matchy-matchy, a lot of Korean couples now do the subtle thing where they coordinate colors or wear the same sneakers instead of identical shirts. Myeongdong and the Ewha shopping street have plenty of affordable couple look sets if you want to pick something up after you land.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
