Jamsil area?

Need some recommendations for shopping Korean beauty products, chocolates and clothes... Need some recommendations for shopping Korean beauty products, chocolates and clothes...

jamsil has a lot of big chain stores but i'd skip lotte world mall for beauty - olive young in lotte department store is fine but the prices aren't great. for clothes try the underground shopping center at jamsil station exit 8, lots of affordable trendy stuff without the department store markup. for chocolates check out the small bakery called b&b near seokchon lake, they have good handmade chocolate bars that aren't overpriced like the touristy ones

honestly for beauty products i'd take the bus over to garosu-gil in sinsa instead. the olive young flagship there has way more testers and the staff actually let u try stuff without hovering. for chocolates the ghim's chocolate shop in the lotte world mall basement is decent but overpriced. the real move is the little chocolate stall inside the seoul folk flea market on weekends, they sell homemade bean-to-bar stuff for like 8,000 won and it's way better. clothes wise the underground mall at jamsil station is fine but the sizing runs small. i prefer the area around songpa naru park on saturdays when they have the flea market, lots of vintage and handmade stuff that's actually unique

if you're in jamsil already, might be worth hopping over to sincheon station area instead - it's one stop away and there's a small row of indie beauty shops near exit 4 that have better deals on lesser known korean brands. for chocolates, i actually like the ones at the paris baguette in lotte world mall's food court, they do a seasonal box that's pretty solid and like 15,000 won. clothes wise, check out the edit at lotte department store's young section, it's less chaotic than the underground mall and has some local designers mixed in

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 15 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
