Hello! My name is Justin and I'm a 28M tennis player, probably around 3.5-4.0 NTRP.

I saw a few posts about playing tennis but they're from over 6 months ago, so I wanted to try and get a group together to hit somewhat regularly :-)

I've tried Meetup and browsed Smaxh but wanted to try here as well! I'm in Seocho but I have the tennis itch so am willing to travel lol

Feel free to drop your Kakao or DM me if interested. It'd be awesome to get at least 4 people total!

yo Justin, fellow 3.5 here living in Hannam. Seocho's got some decent public courts near Yangjae Stream that are usually free on weekday mornings if you're flexible. Smaxh is fine for booking but the fees add up quick, $20-30 per session at some of the nicer indoor spots. i know a group that hits at Seoul National University courts on weekends, pretty chill vibe and usually room for extras. dm me your kakao if u wanna join next saturday

The Seocho-gu public courts near Yangjae Citizen's Forest have four hard courts that are first-come-first-served and rarely full during weekday afternoons. I've been going there for about a year and usually find a wall to hit against if no one's around. There's also a decent stringing shop called Tennis House in Seocho-dong that does quick turnarounds for about 15,000 won, cheaper than most places in Gangnam.

honestly the tennis scene here is way more active than people think, just gotta know where to look. there's a whatsapp group for seoul tennis that's got like 200+ people always looking for games, levels all over the place. i can send u the invite link if u want, just dm me your number. also if ur in seocho the courts at Seoul National University are prob your best bet for consistent games, the students run a pickup system on their insta page where they post open slots every morning. fwiw i'd skip smaxh for finding people, it's mostly for booking courts not building groups

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 14 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
