I have a VPN active and set to the US but google is still trying to get me to verify my age for korean reasons. Tried to verify to make life easier and it won't accept my US number and says it's invalid. Tried contacting Google support but the call center is closed apparently. Any clue how to deal with this annoying situation? It won't let me look up anything deemed violent either so it's not just porn stuff. Tried to find chainsaw man art and it blocked that too. This is hella annoying because it's just google. My VPN works fine for all my apps like Disney+, Netflix, crunchyroll etc. Google just isn't having it and I don't want to be forced to get a korean number I'll never use otherwise.

The "violent" filter is a separate thing from the adult content gate. That's Korea's game rating law, it applies to all search engines and even news sites, so a VPN won't dodge it. You're right that it's annoying, but that one's pretty much locked down unless you verify with a local ID.

For the adult stuff specifically, the quickest fix is switching your Google account country to the US in the search settings page while the VPN is on, then clearing all cookies and search history before you try again. If that still flags you, skip Google entirely and use Bing or Startpage with your VPN, they don't run Korea's verification system. Also worth noting, the US military PX wifi or the base network sometimes routes through a different backbone that avoids the Korean gate entirely, if you have access to that it's a workaround that costs nothing.

yeah google's korea age gate is brutal, it checks your IP and your google account country settings separately. your VPN masks the IP but if your google account is still set to korea or has korean cookies cached, it'll keep flagging you. clear your browser data completely, then log into google with the VPN on and switch your account region to US in settings. that usually fixes it.

if that doesn't work, just use a different search engine. naver and daum are the big local ones but they're korean only. honestly just use bing or duckduckgo with the VPN, they don't pull that verification nonsense. for the violent stuff, that's korean law, not google's choice. they have to filter it here, so no search engine will show graphic content without a verified korean ID. that part you're stuck on unless you get a korean phone number or a friend's korean id to verify with.

ngl your best bet might be just making a fresh google account while on the VPN, like a brand new one with no korean history attached. your current one prob has too much cached location data from before. also check if your phone's GPS is on, that leaks your real location to google even with the VPN up. or just give up on google for this and use a direct site like nhentai or something, they don't ask for verification.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 15 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
