best month/s to visit seoul?

honestly, late september to mid october is my favorite time. the humidity finally breaks and the light gets this golden quality that makes the old hanok neighborhoods in Bukchon look incredible. you also miss the peak summer crowds but still get nice enough evenings to sit at a pojangmacha in Hongdae without freezing. February is underrated if you don't mind the cold, fewer tourists at Gyeongbokgung and the ice fishing festival at Cheonggyecheon is actually fun for a quick stop. just don't come during Seollal unless you want everything shuttered for three days straight

April and October are the sweet spots. Spring has the cherry blossoms at Yeouido and along the Han River but it can get crowded, and autumn brings perfect weather for hiking Bukhansan without the summer humidity. July and August are brutally hot and rainy, plus the monsoon season makes outdoor plans unreliable. If you're on a budget, come in November or March when flights are cheaper and the tourist crowds thin out, just pack layers.

May is my pick if you want the best balance of good weather and things happening. The Seoul Lantern Festival along Cheonggyecheon usually runs then, and the city feels alive without being as packed as cherry blossom season. September is also solid for the Chuseok holiday period when a lot of locals leave town, so palaces and tourist spots are quieter. Just avoid any month ending in "August" unless you enjoy 90% humidity and subway cars that smell like a wet gym sock.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
