๐Ÿœ Must-Try Jeju Dishes
Start with heukdwaeji, the island's famous black pork, grilled at tabletop restaurants and wrapped in lettuce. Another iconic dish is galchi jorim, braised hairtail fish, often served spicy with radish. For something lighter, try jeonbokjuk, abalone porridge, a comforting breakfast staple. These three dishes define Jeju's culinary identity and are available at most local eateries.

๐Ÿช Top Local Restaurants
For black pork, head to Heukdwaeji Geori (Black Pork Street) in Jeju City, where restaurants like Dombedon (15 Gwangyang 14-gil) offer sets from 15,000 to 20,000 won per person. In Seogwipo, Olae Guksa (10 Jungjeong-ro) serves hearty hairtail stew for around 12,000 won. For abalone porridge, Myeongjin Jeonbok (941-1 Gwideok-ri, Hallim) is a local favorite, open from 8 AM to 8 PM, with bowls priced at 10,000 to 15,000 won.

๐ŸŒฎ Street Food and Markets
Dongmun Market in Jeju City (9 Dongmun-ro) is the best spot for street eats like tteokbokki, hotteok, and fresh seafood. Try the grilled squid skewers for 3,000 won or a bag of hallabong tangerines for 5,000 won. The market is open daily from 8 AM to 9 PM, with peak activity in the evening. Seogwipo's Olle Market (18 Jungang-ro) is another great option, especially for its famous garlic bread and citrus juices.

๐Ÿฃ Seafood Specialties
Jeju's waters yield excellent seafood, and raw fish (hwe) is a must. Visit the Haenyeo (female diver) restaurants near Seongsan Ilchulbong, such as Haenyeo House (20 Ilchul-ro), where a plate of fresh abalone and conch costs around 25,000 won. For a unique experience, try sea urchin rice at Myeongjin Abalone in Hallim, open 9 AM to 9 PM. Expect to pay 15,000 to 30,000 won for seafood mains.

๐ŸŠ Citrus and Desserts
Jeju is famous for its hallabong tangerines, and you'll find citrus-flavored treats everywhere. Stop by Cafe Delmoondo (33 Hamdeok-ro) for a hallabong smoothie (7,000 won) with ocean views. For dessert, try the green tea roll cake at Osulloc Tea Museum (15 Sinhwayeoksa-ro) for 6,000 won. Many cafes also offer tangerine ade and chocolate, perfect for a sweet break.

๐Ÿฒ Noodle and Soup Spots
Jeju's noodle culture shines at places like Jamae Guksu (22 Gwangyang 14-gil) in Jeju City, serving pork noodles for 8,000 won from 10 AM to 8 PM. Another classic is momguk, a pork and seaweed soup traditionally eaten on the island, available at Hyangchon (5 Jungang-ro) for 9,000 won. These comforting bowls are ideal for lunch or a quick dinner.

๐Ÿฑ Budget Eats and Tips
For budget travelers, convenience stores offer kimbap and ramen for under 5,000 won, but don't miss local bakeries like Paris Baguette for cheap pastries. Many restaurants have lunch specials from 10,000 won, and street food stalls in markets sell snacks for 2,000 to 5,000 won. Tipping is not customary in Korea, so your total cost is what you see on the menu.

๐ŸšŒ Getting Around for Food
Jeju's public bus system is efficient and cheap, with fares around 1,200 won. To reach Black Pork Street, take bus 300 or 500 from Jeju Bus Terminal to Dongmun Market stop. For Seogwipo, use bus 182 from Jeju City, which takes about an hour. Taxis are also affordable for short trips, with base fares of 3,800 won.

Worth adding: gogi guksu, the pork-bone noodle soup, is what locals actually eat for breakfast and it rarely makes these lists. I had a bowl in Hallim for 7,000 won at 7 AM surrounded by fishermen. Also, most black pork places charge per 100g, not per person, so the set prices can mislead.

The momguk at a random Aewol haengwon (local diner) beat any name on this list, and nobody there spoke English.

don't sleep on the haemul kalguksu at the small shops near Hamdeok beach, seafood noodles for 9,000 won & the broth is unreal

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Plan Your Route
Jeju is larger than it looks, so grouping sights by neighborhood is key. Day 1 covers Jeju City and the east coast, Day 2 heads to Seogwipo and the south, and Day 3 explores the west and Hallasan. Rent a car or use buses; travel times between clusters are 30 to 60 minutes.

๐Ÿ™๏ธ Day 1: Jeju City & East
Start at Dongmun Market (8 AM-9 PM) for breakfast, then drive 30 minutes to Hamdeok Beach. After lunch, visit Seongsan Ilchulbong (7 AM-7 PM, 5,000 won) and Manjanggul Lava Tube (9 AM-6 PM, 4,000 won). Return to Jeju City for dinner.

๐ŸŒŠ Day 2: Seogwipo & South
Drive 1 hour to Seogwipo and begin at Cheonjiyeon Waterfall (8 AM-10 PM, 2,000 won). Then explore Jusangjeolli Cliffs (9 AM-6 PM, 2,000 won) and relax at Jungmun Beach. In the evening, stroll through Lee Jung Seop Street.

โ›ฐ๏ธ Day 3: West & Hallasan
Hike Hallasan's Eorimok Trail (5.8 km, 2.5 hours) in the morning, then drive 40 minutes to Hyeopjae Beach. Visit Hallim Park (8:30 AM-6 PM, 12,000 won) and end at Aewol Cafe Street for sunset. Return to Jeju City, 30 minutes away.

๐Ÿš— Getting Around
Renting a car is the most efficient option; rates start at 50,000 won per day. Buses like the 201 and 202 connect major hubs but add 30-50% to travel times. Taxis are available but can be expensive for cross-island trips.

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Where to Eat
In Jeju City, try black pork at Heukdwaeji Street (15,000-20,000 won per person). Seogwipo's Olle Market offers seafood pancakes and tangerine juice. For a quick bite, convenience stores sell kimbap for under 3,000 won.

๐Ÿจ Where to Stay
Jeju City has budget motels (40,000-60,000 won) and the Ramada Plaza (120,000 won). Seogwipo offers guesthouses (30,000-50,000 won) and the Lotte Hotel (200,000 won). Book ahead for summer weekends.

๐Ÿ’ก Practical Tips
Buy a T-money card for buses and taxis. Check opening hours; many sites close at 6 PM. Carry cash for markets and small eateries. Weather can change quickly, so pack a light jacket even in summer.

Skip Hamdeok and do Gimnyeong beach instead, quieter sand and the haenyeo there still dive most mornings.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Worth adding that Eorimok Trail parking fills by 9am on weekends, so start earlier than the guide suggests.
