đźš‹ Getting Around
Gdańsk has efficient trams and buses; buy tickets from machines (3.80 zł for 15 minutes, 4.80 zł for 75 minutes). A 24-hour ticket costs 14 zł. Use the ZTM Gdańsk app or Jakdojade for schedules. The Main Town is walkable, but use trams for Oliwa and Brzeźno.

🍽️ Where to Eat
For budget meals, try Bar Mleczny Neptun (ul. Długa 33/34) with mains 15-25 zł, open 8:00-20:00. For traditional Polish dishes, go to Kubicki (ul. Wartka 5) near the river, mains 40-60 zł. đź’° Money-Saving Tips
Many attractions are free on Mondays, including the Amber Museum and the National Museum. Buy a 72-hour ZTM ticket for 36 zł if you plan to use public transport frequently. Look for the 'Gdańsk Card' (from 70 zł for 24 hours) which includes museum entry and transport. Eat at milk bars (bar mleczny) for cheap, hearty meals. Tap water is safe to drink, so carry a refillable bottle.

🌙 Evening Activities
Stroll the illuminated Motława waterfront and the Crane (Żuraw) after dark. Catch a performance at the Shakespeare Theatre (ul. W. Bogusławskiego 1) or the Baltic Philharmonic (ul. Ołowianka 1). For nightlife, head to ulica Piwna for craft beer bars like Labeerynt (ul. Piwna 53) or cocktail bars on ulica Chmielna. In summer, enjoy open-air concerts at the Neptune Fountain. Most bars close around 1:00 AM on weekends.

đź“… Best Time to Visit
June to August offers warm weather (18-25°C) and long days, but crowds are heavy; book accommodation early. May and September are quieter with mild temperatures and lower prices. Winter (December to February) brings Christmas markets and festive lights, but temperatures drop to -5°C. Avoid late October and November when many attractions have reduced hours. Check the official Gdańsk tourism site for event calendars.

the 72h ztm ticket is a good shout but honestly for 3 days u barely use it, day 1 is all walkable. one thing missing: the WW2 museum, way better than i expected & worth half a day if u can squeeze it

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

solid plan, but day 2 is packed. the tram 8 to Oliwa alone eats an hour each way and the organ concert is only a few minutes long. if u want the shipyard stuff, do the free walking tour from under the Złota Brama instead, it covers Solidarity better than paying 30 zł. also skip Westerplatte ferry if ur short on time, its mostly rubble and a long walk. brzeźno pier at sunset is the real highlight tbh

Piwna 47 closed, try Gdański Bowke on Długie Pobrzeże

🏰 Explore the Main Town
Start your visit at the iconic Neptune Fountain on Długi Targ, the heart of the Main Town. The fountain dates back to 1633 and is a perfect meeting point. Wander down Ulica Długa, a historic thoroughfare lined with colorful burgher houses, and admire the elaborate facades. Be sure to look up at the Golden Gate and the Prison Tower at the ends of the street. These landmarks offer a glimpse into Gdansk's golden age as a wealthy trading city.

⛪ Climb St. Mary's Church
St. Mary's Church (Bazylika Mariacka) is one of the largest brick churches in the world and can hold up to 25,000 people. Climb the 402 steps to the top of the tower for a panoramic view of the city and the Baltic Sea. The church is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on weekdays and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sundays. Admission to the tower is 10 PLN, and the view is worth every step. Inside, don't miss the famous astronomical clock from 1464.

🕊️ Walk the Royal Route
The Royal Route is the path Polish kings took when visiting Gdansk, starting at the Upland Gate and ending at the Green Gate. Along the way, you'll pass the Torture House, the Main Town Hall, and the Artus Court. The route is about 1.5 kilometers long and takes roughly an hour to walk without stops. Pick up an audio guide at the tourist information center on Długi Targ for 20 PLN to get the full story. This walk is a great introduction to the city's history.

âš“ Discover Solidarity Centre
The European Solidarity Centre (ECS) is a must-visit for anyone interested in modern history. Located at Plac Solidarności 1, it tells the story of the Solidarity movement that helped bring down communism in Poland. The interactive exhibits are engaging and available in English. Admission is 25 PLN for adults, and it's open from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM in summer. The building itself, with its rusted steel facade, is an architectural landmark.

🌊 Relax at Brzeźno Beach
Take tram number 3 or 8 from the city center to BrzeĹşno, a seaside district with a long sandy beach. The journey takes about 30 minutes. The beach is perfect for a stroll, and you can walk out onto the wooden pier for views of the bay. In summer, there are plenty of cafes and seafood stalls along the promenade. It's a favorite spot for locals to unwind on sunny days.

🍽️ Taste Local Cuisine
Gdansk is a great place to try Baltic seafood and traditional Polish dishes. Head to the Amber Side restaurant on Długi Targ for a modern take on regional cuisine, or try Bar mleczny (milk bar) Neptun at Długa 32/34 for affordable pierogi and soups. For a splurge, Restauracja Gdańska at Świętego Ducha 16 offers a refined menu. Don't leave without trying fresh cod or herring, often served with potatoes and dill.

🛍️ Shop for Amber
Gdansk is known as the world's amber capital, and you'll find countless shops along Mariacka Street. Look for pieces with inclusions like insects or plant fragments, which are more valuable. Prices range from 50 PLN for small pendants to several thousand for elaborate necklaces. The Amber Museum at Długa 45 is a good place to learn about the stone before you buy. Be wary of street vendors selling fake amber; stick to reputable stores.

🚢 Cruise the Motława
A boat tour on the Motława River offers a different perspective of Gdansk. You can catch a water tram (ZTM) from the stop near the Crane (Żuraw) for a short hop to Westerplatte, or take a scenic cruise around the harbor. The water tram is part of the public transport system, so a single ticket costs 4.80 PLN. For a more leisurely trip, private cruises depart from Długie Pobrzeże and last about an hour. It's a relaxing way to see the shipyards and the old town from the water.

skip the amber museum and just browse Mariacka, prices there beat the Długi Targ stalls by half.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

St Mary's tower is cash only for the 10 PLN ticket, and the queue at Mariacka gets brutal after noon so go right at 9.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

the water tram to Westerplatte is the move, way cheaper than the tourist boats & drops u right at the monument
