Nobody seems to know exactly where it is, though, even my cousin! It's supposedly a breathtaking piece depicting Mayan mythology. My question is, does anyone know the location of this legendary mural? I'd love to see it before I leave.

honestly the mural people keep mentioning is prob the one in the stairwell of the building closest to the biblioteca, not the escenario one. i went there for a taller de danza back in the day and the piece wraps up the side of the stairs, all faded now, Kinich Ahau and some ceiba imagery. hard to photograph cause the light comes in bad from the east windows in the morning. if your cousin can get u in during recreo when there's less foot traffic thats ur best shot, teachers are usually chill about it if a student asks.

The Juan de la Barrera on Avenida Nichupté, near SM 21, is the one your cousin likely means. There's a mural inside the older two-story building, the one facing the cancha, but it's not really "hidden", it's just on a wall behind the escenario that gets covered with tarps during assemblies and graduations, so most students walk past without ever clocking it. It depicts the Hero Twins and Xibalba, and the artist is widely believed to be a local who worked on several public pieces around Cancún in the 80s and 90s. Getting in is the tricky part, since it's a federal school and they don't let outsiders wander, so your cousin should ask a teacher or the director for permission ahead of time, ideally on a weekday morning when there's no event.

I've walked past that school on Nichupté plenty of times and never knew there was anything like that inside, so this thread has been a bit of a revelation. One thing worth flagging: there are actually two secundarias with that name in the city, and the other one, over in SM 74 near the deportivo, gets confused with the federal one all the time. If your cousin is at the federal school, ask her which turno she's in, because the mural stories I've heard are all attached to the matutino and the afternoon crowd barely knows it exists. Also, school security has gotten stricter since the last administration, so having her ask the subdirector rather than showing up cold will save you a wasted trip.

Forget about it. He keeps mentioning this one teacher, Señora Rodriguez, who's legendary for her pop quizzes. Seriously, he's convinced she can predict the future. So my question is: what's the craziest rumour you've heard about Señora Rodriguez and her pop quizzes at Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera? Is she actually psychic...?

my tia subbed there for a semester & said the notebook thing is real but its not about predicting anything. she just recycles the same 5 questions every cycle so by week 3 everyone whos been paying attention already knows whats coming. the actual chaos is the morning shift, kids hopping the fence by the cancha to grab tortas before the 7am bell.

honestly the psychic thing is mostly just kids being dramatic. my neighbor's kid went there and swore she keeps a little notebook with every class's weak spots, like she knows exactly who didnt read the chapter. tbh thats less ESP and more her just paying attention for 20 years. also the lunch chaos is real, that whole stretch near Av. Chac Mool gets nuts around 2pm when everyone spills out.

I don't know about psychic but a friend swears she once gave a quiz on a chapter nobody had been assigned yet.
