I'm going to visit my old school, Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera, next week. It's been fifteen years since I graduated, and I'm curious if the legendary Mrs. Rodriguez still teaches history. It's been fifteen years since I graduated, and I'm curious if the legendary Mrs. Rodriguez still teaches history. She used to tell the most amazing stories about the Mayan ruins, stories way more interesting than anything in the textbook. I remember once she even showed us a real obsidian arrowhead she found! Anyway, my question is: do they still have the same annual Dia de Muertos celebration? That thing was epic... So many sugar skulls and catrinas!

ngl mrs rodriguez was still there when i ran into her at the mercado 28 about two years ago, she was buying copal incense so maybe she still does the history thing part-time. the dia de muertos celebration at the school is definitely still on, they even added a small altar contest for the students a few years back. if you're around on the 2nd you should swing by in the evening, the catrinas parade usually ends up on tulum avenue around 6pm

Fifteen years? Wow, that's a long time! Mrs. Rodriguez... I bet she's still there, spinning those incredible Mayan tales. Those history lessons were way better than anything I ever got. Obsidian arrowhead, huh? That's awesome.

As for the Dia de Muertos celebration... It's probably still a big deal. Cancun loves its traditions. You'll have to check it out, but I'd bet money on a sugar skull extravaganza. Hope you have a great trip back!

i think they still do the dia de muertos thing but it might be smaller now. mrs rodriguez retired a couple years ago though, i heard she moved to merida

my tia subbed there for a semester & said the notebook thing is real but its not about predicting anything. she just recycles the same 5 questions every cycle so by week 3 everyone whos been paying attention already knows whats coming. the actual chaos is the morning shift, kids hopping the fence by the cancha to grab tortas before the 7am bell.

honestly the psychic thing is mostly just kids being dramatic. my neighbor's kid went there and swore she keeps a little notebook with every class's weak spots, like she knows exactly who didnt read the chapter. tbh thats less ESP and more her just paying attention for 20 years. also the lunch chaos is real, that whole stretch near Av. Chac Mool gets nuts around 2pm when everyone spills out.
