honestly the thing nobody warns you about out there is the coati. theyre bold little guys and they will absolutely get into your food if you leave anything on the porch overnight. keep the kitchen sealed up.

water is the other thing. that stretch past Puerto Morelos toward Punta Allen, most of those rentals run on cisterns or a well, so you cant drink from the tap. buy garrafones in town before you head down the dirt road, the last tienda is back near the highway.

for bugs, a fan pointed at you at night does more than any spray. mosquitoes are weak flyers so moving air keeps em off. ask if the bedroom has one.

arsgan house is down a pretty rough dirt road off the 307, past puerto morelos toward punta allen, so secluded is an understatement. mosquitoes are the real issue more than spiders, especially after rain, the cenote-ish jungle around there holds water & they come out at dusk hard. bring repellent with picaridin not just deet, and long sleeves for evening. tarantulas exist but theyre chill & you probably wont see one unless ur flipping rocks

The bigger nuisance out that way is actually the sandflies and the little biting midges, they come through window screens that aren't tight and you won't notice until the next morning. If the chalet has screens check them before you unpack, and ask the host if they fog the place because some of those rentals only do it monthly. Scorpions turn up under damp towels and in shoes left outside overnight, so shake everything out, that's more likely than a spider situation. For what it's worth the howler monkeys at dawn are loud enough to wake you and that's the real wildlife highlight, no need to worry about the eight-legged stuff.

my tia subbed there for a semester & said the notebook thing is real but its not about predicting anything. she just recycles the same 5 questions every cycle so by week 3 everyone whos been paying attention already knows whats coming. the actual chaos is the morning shift, kids hopping the fence by the cancha to grab tortas before the 7am bell.

honestly the psychic thing is mostly just kids being dramatic. my neighbor's kid went there and swore she keeps a little notebook with every class's weak spots, like she knows exactly who didnt read the chapter. tbh thats less ESP and more her just paying attention for 20 years. also the lunch chaos is real, that whole stretch near Av. Chac Mool gets nuts around 2pm when everyone spills out.
