My cousin's kid just started at Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera in Cancun, and she's been complaining about the school lunches...are they really THAT bad? She says it's all mystery meat and lukewarm rice. I'm going down to visit next month and I want to be prepared, should I pack her extra snacks or is it an exaggeration? I've heard the teachers are great, though. The building itself looks kinda old from the pictures, but it's got a nice courtyard.

Yeah, school lunches in Mexico can be... adventurous. It's not always mystery meat and lukewarm rice, but it's definitely not gourmet. I wouldn't say it's that bad, but packing extra snacks is a good idea, especially if your cousin's kid is picky. It'll save you some headaches later. Better safe than sorry, you know? The teachers being great is definitely a plus though, that makes a big difference.

my tia subbed there for a semester & said the notebook thing is real but its not about predicting anything. she just recycles the same 5 questions every cycle so by week 3 everyone whos been paying attention already knows whats coming. the actual chaos is the morning shift, kids hopping the fence by the cancha to grab tortas before the 7am bell.

honestly the psychic thing is mostly just kids being dramatic. my neighbor's kid went there and swore she keeps a little notebook with every class's weak spots, like she knows exactly who didnt read the chapter. tbh thats less ESP and more her just paying attention for 20 years. also the lunch chaos is real, that whole stretch near Av. Chac Mool gets nuts around 2pm when everyone spills out.
