honestly this is a solid itinerary, i'd just add that the Meru Museum is smaller than most people expect so you can prob get thru it in under an hour. grab a mandazi from the stall outside instead of sitting down at Cafe Meru, it's like 20 bob and way better
for the Meru National Park gate, make sure you have your ID or passport ready because they're strict about checking docs even for locals. i went last August and forgot mine, wasted 30 mins sorting it out at the gate
one thing missing is the Nyambene Hills if you have an extra afternoon. it's about 40 mins east of town and the views over the tea plantations are unreal, plus you can buy fresh miraa straight from the farms for like 200 KES a bundle. way cheaper than the market stalls in town
also on the budget side, the matatus to Nanyuki run every 15 mins and cost 200 KES, not bad if you're solo. just be ready for a cramped ride with chickens or veg sometimes
solid itinerary, the Green Garden lunch spot is a good call. if you're there on a Saturday, the market is twice as busy with farmers from the hills bringing in honey and bananas, best time to buy
for the Lewa visit, book the guided walk instead of the full safari if you're on a budget. it's 800 KES and you still see rhinos up close, the rangers are super knowledgeable about the local flora too
one thing i'd change is the Sirimon hike timing. start by 7am to beat the afternoon clouds, otherwise you're just walking in mist by 2pm and missing the views of the peak. the gate opens at 6 so you can be on the trail early
the Ngare Ndare canopy walk is worth the drive but the bridge gets slippery when wet, wear proper shoes not sandals. i saw a girl twist her ankle there last year, not fun
ngl the Alba rooftop is a solid sunset spot but if you want cheaper drinks try the bar at Three Steers Hotel on the Nanyuki road. they do a tusker for 250 and the view over the town is just as good, plus less touristy
also for the equator thing in nanyuki, the guys running the experiment will try to charge you 100 bob for the demo. just stand at the painted line and watch someone else do it for free, the whole thing is a bit gimmicky anyway
one thing i'd add is the khat market in meru town on kaaga road, opens around 5am and wraps up by 8. it's a wild scene with hundreds of traders shouting prices, totally different vibe from the central market. just don't take photos without asking, locals get jumpy about it

the meru museum is worth it but the guided walk through the forest reserve is where it's at honestly. i did it last june and saw colobus monkeys up close, the guide knew every bird call. it's quieter than arusha park so you actually hear the waterfall before you see it
for the market, try the fried cassava with chili sauce from the stall near the main entrance. it's like 50 cents and way better than the nyama choma places. also the viewpoint is better at 5:30am for sunrise, the light hits mount meru differently and there's nobody there
honestly the sunrise tip is solid but if you're doing the heritage trail, the old railway station has a hidden platform on the east side that most people miss. there's a faded mural from the 1950s showing the old train route to mombasa, it's pretty cool if you're into that sort of thing
for a quick bite that's not on the list, there's a woman near the market bus stop who makes fresh sugarcane juice with ginger and lime. costs like 30 cents and hits different after a morning walk, way better than the coffee shop imo
also the museum has a small garden out back with medicinal plants labeled in swahili and english, the guide there is named michael and he'll walk you through them if you ask. i spent an extra 20 minutes there just because he was so passionate about it
for the arusha national park canoe trip, go with the early morning option that starts at 6am, the lake is glassy calm and you'll see hippos surfacing right next to the boat. my guide was a guy named juma and he pointed out fish eagles diving for tilapia, cost me an extra 15 on top of the game drive but worth it
the meru coffee shop does a decent espresso but the real find is the roastery behind it on soko road, they sell fresh beans for like 4 bucks a kilo and will grind them for you. i brought some home and it's better than most stuff i've had in arusha town
skip club meru on weekdays unless you want an empty dance floor, friday night is when the live band plays traditional benga music and the place actually fills up. get there by 9pm before it gets packed
