for brand new gear theres a place called sound lab in shinjuku, its tucked away in a backstreet near the station but they stock api and warm audio 500 series stuff you wont find at yodobashi. their mic preamp selection is solid, they had the heritage audio 1073 when i was there last. for second hand, hit up hard off in yokohama or the bigger ones in ikebukuro, they sometimes get old neve and pultec stuff from studios closing down, prices are random but i snagged a vintage la2a clone for dirt cheap once. also check out the monthly audio flea market at tokyo big sight, next one is in march i think, lots of guys selling their clones and diy kits there

if you're into 500 series stuff, ochanomizu is your spot. the main street has like 15 shops stacked together, ishibashi and kurosawa both have decent used racks. for new stuff, head to shinjuku's yodobashi camera but skip the main floor, go up to the pro audio section on 5 or 6. also check out fujiya avic in nakano, they have a solid vintage compressor selection but prices are a bit higher than what you'd find on yahoo auctions

honestly if you're after the higher end stuff like api or neve clones, skip the tourist spots and head to five star audio in akihabara. it's on the 3rd floor of a random building near the station, tiny shop but the owner knows his 500 series stuff inside out. he usually has a few used pulteq style units from klark teknik and warm audio that are way cheaper than retail. just text him on line before going, he's not always there

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
