Velvet Tokyo club 2026: what's the door policy like?

Heading to Tokyo in 2026 and Velvet keeps coming up for a night out. What's the door policy like there, and do they turn away tourists or groups of guys? Also wondering what time it actually gets busy… Heading to Tokyo in 2026 and Velvet keeps coming up for a night out. Bringing a Japanese speaker helps a lot at the door, even a friend who just handles the greeting. They also check ID hard so keep your passport on you, and dress code is smart casual, no athletic stuff. Things thin out after last train so aim earlier if you want a table.

Passport beats zairyu card at the door, they'll squint at the residence card and ask for the passport anyway. One thing nobody mentions: weekends in Shibuya fill by 10.30, so the queue outside is the real filter.

one more thing: they sometimes ring the nomikai group ahead of u at the door, so having someone who can vouch by name on the phone beats a walk-up

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

That call ahead thing is real, mostly regulars with a host on the books, walk-ups just wait it out.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Smart casual means no shorts either, they bounced a mate in July over that, and last entry is usually 2.30 on Fridays.

The bouncer cares more about ratio and behavior than nationality, so solo guys get waved off while mixed groups sail in around 11pm.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Ratio flips around 1am, guys get in easier then.

Spot on about behavior, though they also watch whether you're actually spending once inside, so nursing one drink at the bar gets you nudged out.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

yea ratio is real but honestly its more about how u carry yourself, loud drunk gaijin groups get bounced no matter the mix

arrow_drop_up 6 arrow_drop_down

Agree on the ratio thing, but behavior cuts both ways, I've seen quiet couples waved through fast while a chatty mixed group got held up. Also worth knowing they sometimes ask what you do in Tokyo, so a vague answer reads worse than a plain one.

Best tea experience near Camellia House in 2026?

honestly if u want something quieter, try Chazen in Ebisu for sencha, around 3,000 yen and walk-ins usually fine on weekdays.

Image felizitas local ·

Chazen's solid but the sencha flight is closer to 4,000 now, they bumped it last autumn. Weekday afternoons before 3pm are your best bet, the counter gets tight after that. Skip Sundays entirely, it's chaos.

Second this, the 2pm seating is the quiet one.

Image mirjam local ·

fair point on the price bump, and fwiw the 1pm slot is even calmer than 2 if u can swing it

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Matcha at the Ebisu location runs steeper than sencha, and the upstairs seats go first on rainy days.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Weekday mornings before noon, that's the quiet window.

Toraya Akasaka, go before 11am.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Yeah getting there early is key, but they close on the second Wednesday of each month i think, worth checking before u go.

Camellia House runs a solid matcha tasting, but I'd walk ten minutes to Sakurai Japanese Tea Experience in Aoyama instead, the counter seats are worth reserving a week out. Expect around 5,000 to 8,000 yen per person. Book ahead either way, spring fills fast.
