Glaze donuts in Tokyo: worth the queue in 2026?

I'm visiting Tokyo in March 2026 and Glaze keeps showing up on donut lists. Is the queue at the Jiyugaoka shop manageable on a weekday morning, and which flavors should I not skip? weekday mornings before 10 are fine, maybe 15 mins. by noon the Jiyugaoka shop gets packed with shoppers. skip the matcha and get the plain glazed while it's still warm, that's teh one worth queueing for.

The yuzu one is the real skip.

yuzu tastes like dish soap to me, glad someone said it. their kinako black sugar is the sleeper pick, way better than the citrus stuff. ask if it's from the morning batch, the afternoon ones go a bit dry

matcha's decent if u get it fresh tbh

yeah the queue dies down after lunch too, like 1-2pm it's pretty quiet. grab the lemon one if they have it, super underrated.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

decent tip but i'd say closer to 3pm is safer, that after lunch lull fills back up with office workers. you tried the seasonal stuff, or just the regular lineup?

Honestly the plain one sells out first, so go right at open or you'll miss it.

open is 10am sharp, not 9

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

plain glazed at open, that's the whole trick

Fifteen minutes is optimistic, more like thirty by 11.

Is Foodland in Tokyo good for budget groceries 2026?

moving to Tokyo in a few months and trying to figure out where to shop for cheap groceries. is Foodland actually good value or should i be looking at gyomu super or hanamasa instead? would love to hea… moving to Tokyo in a few months and trying to figure out where to shop for cheap groceries. is Foodland actually good value or should i be looking at gyomu super or hanamasa instead? would love to hear what people actually buy there

for a full weekly shop i'd honestly just do hanamasa for meat & a neighbourhood yaoya for veg, foodland's more of a top up spot

Foodland is fine but it's not where I'd do a full weekly shop. Their produce and meat are decent value, but the real draw is the deli counter and the Shizuoka-area private label stuff. For staples I'd go Gyomu Super for frozen and dry goods, Hanamasa for bulk meat. Foodland shines for small households buying dinner on the way home. Check the weekly chirashi, the discounts on Mondays are real.

Delis half price after 7pm too

Agree on the deli being the real reason to go. One thing though, their private label is actually Hokkaido and Kyushu stuff too, not just Shizuoka. I'd add that the bento and side dishes beat most conbini on price.

yeah the chirashi is the thing to watch, i grab the meat on clearance days and freeze it. their tofu and natto are cheap too ngl. just don't expect great fish there

The 20% sticker days, usually Wednesdays.
