It's all very mysterious. Anyway, I'm terrible with Japanese, and the emails haven't been exactly clear. Anyone know what the security procedures are like there? Do I need a special pass or something? I don't want to get stuck outside looking like a total idiot. I've dealt with banks back home, but this feels...different. Plus, I'm worried about accidentally insulting someone. You know, cultural differences and all that jazz.

Worth knowing that a shinyo kinko sits under a different regulator than the big banks, so the staff tend to be cautious with anyone who isn't already in their system. If your company hasn't sent your name ahead as the person attending, expect a phone call to your office contact before they let you past reception, and that can eat 15 minutes. Ask whoever set this up to email the branch the day before confirming your name, the meeting time, and who you're seeing. That one step saves most of the friction.

shinjuku west exit is a maze so budget extra time, the credit association office is usually up on like the 4th or 5th floor of a mixed building not street level, look for the building directory board near the entrance and match the kanji or just the english name. also bring a hanko if ur company gave u one, some of these places still want a stamp over a signature for paperwork, idk if urs is that formal but worth asking

those shinyo kinko branches often close the counter at 3pm sharp even tho the building stays open later, so if ur meeting is afternoon make sure its not the last slot or you'll be doing the paperwork standing in the lobby. also a lot of them still run on fax & paper for account stuff so dont be surprised if they hand u a physical form to fill out with a little box for ur name in katakana, the receptionist will usually write it for u if u ask nicely. bring ur company's torikimari or registration doc if finance is involved, without it they may just turn u away politely

Maruichi Bagel on Omotesando, worth the walk.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

yeah the walk from the station is longer than it looks on maps, maybe 8 min. their sesame one sells out early so go before noon. fwiw i think it's better than the chain spots around there.

the back street exit saves u a few min vs the main station approach, ngl i grab a plain one there when sesame's gone

Good to know, I always thought it ran later. Do they still throw in the coffee or is that separate now?
