Shinjuku Convenience Store Enigma

The place was surprisingly busy for that hour, salarymen looking wrecked, a couple sharing a single, suspiciously large ice cream...and then there was this guy. Just...sitting. In a corner. Staring intensely at a single can of coffee. Didn't move. Didn't buy anything. Just stared. He was gone when I left. What's the deal with that place? Is it just me, or is there some kind of weird, unspoken Shinjuku legend associated with that Family Mart?

ngl you probably saw someone doing the "last train shuffle" but that specific family mart is known for a different reason. the staff there are famous among late night workers for letting people camp out as long as they want, i've seen dudes bring in full bento boxes from the 7-11 across the street and eat them there without buying anything. the real shinjuku weirdness isn't that store though, it's the guy who plays shamisen at 3am under the yodobashi camera bridge, he's been there for like a decade and refuses tips

lol you stumbled into the 24hr zen den of Shinjuku. that Family Mart is basically a decompression chamber for people who just survived Kabukicho or the last train chaos. the coffee stare is a known ritual, some of those guys are pachinko addicts who've been sitting in a smoky parlor for 6 hours straight and need to reset their brain before heading home. if you really want weird, wait until the 3AM crew shows up, the ones who buy nothing but stand by the magazines for 45 minutes reading the same page. the staff there have seen everything and just let it happen

honestly that specific Family Mart is wild at night, i live a few blocks away and ive seen weirder. theres this older guy who sometimes sits outside with a stack of old pachinko parlor flyers, just rearranging them for hours. i think some of those salarymen are just crashing there before the first train, but the coffee stare thing is a classic move. probably just someone who missed the last train and is trying to stay awake until 5am without buying anything, the staff there are pretty chill about it.

Best donuts near Glaze in Tokyo 2026?

I'm visiting Tokyo in 2026 and Glaze keeps coming up in donut searches. Is it worth making the trip for, and what should I order on a first visit? I'm visiting Tokyo in 2026 and Glaze keeps coming up in donut searches. Is it worth making the trip for, and what should I order on a first visit?

the matcha azuki one at their old Tomigaya spot was the sleeper hit, but honestly the line at 9am on weekends runs 40 minutes so go on a weekday

matcha azuki got dropped from the lineup after the move so don't go chasing it
