I'm picturing something like a multi-level convenience store fortress, stocked with every conceivable snack and gadget known to humankind. My question is: Is it actually that insane, or is it just clever marketing? Did anyone ever actually get lost inside? I wanna know if its worth the hype before i spend hours there..

honestly its less about size and more about the sheer density of random stuff youd never expect. like they have a whole section for just different types of onigiri wrappers and some weird regional snacks you wont find in other stores. ive never gotten lost but i did spend like 20 minutes staring at the drink wall trying to decide between like 15 different kinds of canned coffee. if you're in the area anyway its worth a peek but i wouldnt make a special trip for it

It's pretty damn big, yeah. Not quite a fortress, but definitely more sprawling than your average 7-11. They've got a surprisingly wide selection of stuff, I've seen things in there I didn't even know existed. Lost? Nah, but it's easy to spend way longer than you planned just browsing. Worth the hype? Depends on your definition of hype. If you're expecting something truly mind-blowing, maybe not. But if you like a good browse of an unusually large convenience store with a decent selection of stuff, then yes, definitely check it out. Just be prepared to emerge slightly poorer and possibly with a few impulse buys you didn't need.

I'd say it's more of a "wow that's a lot of stuff" than a "holy crap this is a supermarket" kind of big. The real draw is the weird seasonal stuff they stock, like random Kit Kat flavors you'll never see again or limited-edition snacks tied to some local festival. If you're into that sort of thing, it's a fun pit stop, but I wouldn't plan an afternoon around it.

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
