Seriously, people say it's like a portal to another dimension, stocked with everything from onigiri to bizarre energy drinks at 3 AM. My question is: What's the weirdest thing you've ever seen or bought at that particular Seven Eleven at that hour? I'm bracing myself for some serious late-night convenience store shenanigans. I should of packed more yen!

Dude, that 7-Eleven is insane. I once saw a guy buy a whole roasted chicken at 4 AM and just...eat it standing up, right there in the aisle. No shame. Another time, it was a full-blown cosplay battle. Like, not just a few people, a whole group, swords and everything, in the middle of the snack aisle. Security didn't even bat an eye. It's a whole other world in there. Best thing I ever bought? A ridiculously oversized gummy bear that tasted like melon soda. Totally worth the ¥500 or whatever it was. Prepare yourself...you'll probably see something stranger than anything you can imagine.

That specific store gets busy around 2 AM when the last trains have gone and people are waiting out the gap until the first one at roughly 5. The strangest thing I've seen there wasn't a purchase, it was a guy in a full suit doing his taxes on the counter by the register because his laptop died and he didn't want to go home. I've bought a warm can of corn soup and a tiny bottle of sake at 3 AM more times than I'd like to admit, that combo hits different when it's cold out. If you do go, cut through the side streets off Okubo-dori rather than the main road, it's quieter and you'll actually notice the store instead of walking past it.

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
