I've heard legends about the Lawson Three-F store there, they say it's open 24/7 and stocks the most bizarre and amazing things. I'm arriving late, like, super late. My question is: what's the weirdest, most uniquely Japanese thing you've ever bought from the Lawson Three-F Okubo-dori at, like, 3 am? I need recommendations for a late-night snack... something truly unforgettable. Maybe some kind of melon-flavored... something?

Honestly, the best weird thing I've grabbed from that exact Lawson at 3 AM wasn't even food. They sell these little single-serve pouches of hot sake, usually near the register. You buy it, they hand it to you warm, and you walk out sipping it like a coffee. It's called "kanpai" in a cup and it hits differently when the street is empty.

If you want something edible, skip the melon stuff and look for the cheese korokke. They're these little deep-fried cheese croquettes that sit under the heat lamps, and for 100 yen they're a perfect salty, greasy snack to eat while wandering back. Just don't expect them to be crispy, they've been sitting there.

The Lawson Three-F on Okubo-dori gets a lot of hype, but the real late-night gem there is the frozen section. Skip the melon bread and grab a bag of those individually wrapped taiyaki that come in a box. They're frozen fish-shaped cakes filled with custard or red bean, and you can microwave them right in the store. At 3 AM, nothing beats the contrast of the crispy outer shell and the hot, gooey center. Also, check the drink cooler for a bottle of Pocari Sweat ice slushie if they have the machine, it's the perfect weird hydrator for a night out.

try the canned corn soup from the hot drink case, it's sweet and creamy and weirdly perfect at 3am. also grab a bottle of that lychee flavored chu-hi, it's like a fizzy cocktail thing and goes down way too easy for a random late night snack

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
