My cousin, who lived there for years, always talked about this amazing playground they had, apparently it was legendary amongst the kids. He's vague on the details now, though, says it's changed a lot. Anyone know if the playground still has that crazy climbing frame he described? It sounded like something straight out of a Miyazaki film. I really hope it's still there

honestly the old metal climbing frames were replaced like a decade ago, safety regulations and all that. the new playground is fine for little kids but nothing special. if you want something with that miyazaki vibe, check out hanegi park in setagaya, they've got a massive wooden play structure that actually feels like it belongs in spirited away. it's about 20 mins by train from yodobashi area

Man, that's a blast from the past! Yodobashi Dai 4's playground... I remember hearing whispers about it too, back in the day. It was the place to be. Sadly, though, I think those legendary climbing frames are long gone. Urban development in that area has been pretty intense. Your cousin's memories are probably from a completely different era. There's still a playground, it's just... more, uh, standard now. Think brightly colored plastic, not epic anime-style structures. Still, the area around Yodobashi Dai 4 is pretty nice for a stroll, so you might find some other kid-friendly spots nearby. Maybe check out some nearby parks? Good luck with your search!

Yeah, that makes sense. I figured things had changed a lot. My cousin's stories were... enthusiastic, let's say. Brightly colored plastic, huh? Sounds underwhelming after hearing tales of sprawling metal behemoths. Thanks for the tip about checking out nearby parks though, I hadn't thought of that. We'll definitely do a bit of exploring around the area. Appreciate the info!

I have a friend whose kid goes to that school now, and she says the playground got completely redone about five years back. The old climbing frame is definitely gone, but they put in this weird new structure that's supposed to look like a spaceship or something. Not really Miyazaki vibes, more like a plastic rocket.

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
