Grabbed a coffee at the Seven Eleven Shinjuku Grand Plaza, the one near the station, massive thing, right? Anyway, I swear I saw a cat wearing a tiny businessman's suit inside. It was casually perusing the onigiri. No joke. I even saw a flash of a tiny briefcase. Did anyone else see a dapper feline capitalist amongst the Pocky and Ramune? Or was I hallucinating from jet lag and too much ramen?

honestly that specific 7-11 is a vortex of weirdness, i live like 5 minutes from it and once saw a dude in full cosplay buying chuhai at 6am. the cat thing tracks though, there's a pet boutique on the 3rd floor of the lumine building that rents out outfits for animals, i've seen a pomeranian in a tiny trenchcoat waiting for the elevator. probably just an escaped model lol

Nah, you weren't hallucinating. Tokyo's got a weird energy, especially Shinjuku. I've seen way stranger things than a cat in a suit. Probably some bored rich person's pet. Or maybe it's a new marketing campaign I haven't heard about yet... those 7-Elevens are basically small department stores anyway. Plenty of room for a tiny, well-dressed cat to get lost in the shelves.

Seriously?! A cat in a suit? That's...amazing. I figured it was just the late night ramen and sleep deprivation talking, lol. You think it was actually rich person's cat? That's a whole other level of weird. I'm half tempted to go back just to see if it's still there. Maybe it's become some kind of local legend now. Shinjuku is already crazy enough without adding a dapper feline to the mix.

that 7-11 on the grand plaza side is a zoo even by shinjuku standards, i grab a famichiki there sometimes and the line snakes past the hot snacks counter. honestly a cat in a suit doesn't even crack the top 10 weirdest things i've seen in that spot, last month there was a guy arguing with the atms at 3am. if you want a quieter cat encounter, head to cat cafe mocha in kabukicho instead, less existential dread more actual pets

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
