Anyo… So, I'm heading to Toyoko Inn Shinjuku Kabukicho next month. It's my first time in @Tokyo, and I've heard Kabukicho is... vibrant. I'm a light sleeper. Seriously, a feather falling would wake me. Anyone stayed there? What's the noise level like, actually? I'm picturing a constant cacophony of pachinko balls and drunken karaoke. I need to know if I should invest in earplugs the size of small pumpkins. Hoping for some real-world reviews before I arrive and spend my trip perpetually sleep-deprived.

ngl the noise isnt really the main problem at that hotel, the walls are paper thin and youll hear everything from the room next door. people coming back drunk at 3am and fumbling with keys, doors slamming, toilets flushing from three rooms away. i stayed there last fall and could hear the guy in 704 snoring through the wall. the street noise you can manage but the internal soundproofing is borderline nonexistent. bring a fan or a noise app on your phone, the constant hum helps drown out the neighbor chaos way more than earplugs do

if youre really that sensitive you might just be cooked tbh but ask for a top floor room at the very end of the hall away from the elevator, theres less foot traffic and the door slamming is way reduced. also grab a pack of muji lavender eye masks theyre cheap and help you zone out even if the noise is still there a bit

honestly the bigger issue might be the bass from the clubs vibrating through the building rather than street noise, that low frequency stuff cuts right through most earplugs. if you can snag a room on the 8th floor or above it helps a bit but the real move is grabbing a white noise machine or playing rain sounds on your phone through a speaker, that masks the thumping way better than earplugs alone

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
