ngl the itomori high school scenes were modeled after real locations in hida city, but the train crossing near shinanomachi station is actually closer to what you see in the movie. grab a coffee from the vending machine at the crossing and just wait for a train to pass, it hits different

ah you mean the radwimps soundtrack right? the movie itself is gorgeous but honestly the soundtrack is what really gets me every time. if you're into that vibe you should check out the cafe in shimokitazawa called "the cinema" they sometimes have anime soundtrack listening nights. also the suzume soundtrack is worth a listen if u haven't already, same composer.

The real magic of that film is how accurately it captures Tokyo's layout. I live near Yotsuya and recognized the staircase they meet on at Suga Shrine, it's a popular spot for fans but actually pretty quiet on weekdays. If you want the full pilgrimage experience, head to Hida-Furukawa station in Gifu, that's where the rural scenes were modeled after and they have a little museum dedicated to the movie now.

What documents do they want from the museum side and what usually goes wrong with the application? Any tips on timing before I apply from abroad?

Get the museum to start your Certificate of Eligibility by June, since Shinagawa screening plus COE mailing eats 2-3 months and April museum intakes get ugly.

yeah, and book the flight after the COE lands not before

june's optimistic honestly, the museum's tōkibo copy alone stalled mine a month, so push them to start in May.

Engineer/Specialist in Humanities is the right category for museum curatorial work, not the arts-specific one people assume. The museum needs to supply their registry extract (tōkibo), your employment contract with salary clearly stated, and a detailed job description; the usual snag is a vague description that reads like gallery attendant work.
