Best banking options in Osaka 2026 for short stays
Seven Bank ATMs in 7-Elevens take foreign cards and the fees are lower than most bank ATMs, so a home card isn't the worst fallback. For part time pay, lots of places want a Japanese bank account for payroll, so factor that in.
Payroll often needs a hanko registered too.
inker stamp at the counter, 300 yen or so
yeah, post office is the fallback for payroll
fair point but payroll setup can drag on for weeks so ask ur employer about timing before u rely on it
also check the daily withdrawal cap on ur home card, mine was 50k yen which got old fast
Agreed on the fallback point. The catch is international cards often get blocked for online purchases in Japan, so you'd still want a local account for anything billed monthly. What did your employer actually ask for, just an account number or a full passbook copy?
Sony Bank's English signup is fully online and the cash card doubles as a debit card, no branch visit needed.
Worth noting the online signup still needs a My Number card or residence card upload, which trips up people arriving before their zairyu card is issued.
yucho still easiest, uetsujima branch opens 9am
How do I get to the Kuzunoki tree in Kozushima?
kozushima is the island in tokyo, not osaka. the giant kusunoki there is on the miyake trail, reachable by ferry from take ria or kurihama then a bus. from osaka that's a shinkansen to tokyo first, so it's a full day each way. if u meant a big camphor in osaka, sumiyoshi taisha has one
yeah the kozushima ferry is a long haul from osaka, so sumiyoshi taisha is the realistic pick if they just want a big camphor
sumiyoshi taisha's camphor is a good call & easy off the nankai line, yuhigaoka or sumiyoshitaisha station. worth mentioning the kusunoki there is a national natural monument so it's roped off, no touching
Good point on the rope. the camphor at Sumiyoshi Taisha is the wife tree of a pair with the one at Yao, so if theyre into old trees both are worth a look. Nankai line makes it easy either way
You can also reach it from Tengachaya on the Nankai line, one stop sooner than Yuhigaoka. The rope makes sense once you see the trunk, it's hollow and propped with steel inside.
fair point, but tbh the ferry from Kurihama only runs in season and the trail up to the tree is a decent climb. if theyre going all that way they should budget a night on the island, not a day trip.
Agreed, and book the minshuku early since summer weekends fill months out on that island.
tbh the whole thing is a trip to Tokyo with a detour, not an Osaka day out. if theyre set on kozushima they should fly Hachijojima then hop over, way less painful than the train plus ferry slog
Worth adding the Kozushima ferry is seasonal and weather dependent, so build in a spare day wherever you base yourselves.
The Miike trail actually starts from the port side, not Miyake, so it's about 40 min up through the forest. Bring water, the vending machines stop once you leave town.
