πŸ›οΈ Historic Houses
Kashan's historic merchant houses are its signature attraction, and three are essential: Khan-e Borujerdi, Khan-e Tabatabaei, and Khan-e Abbasi. Borujerdi and Tabatabaei are within a 5-minute walk of each other near Alavi Street, and a combined ticket costs about 500,000 rials (roughly $1.20). Go early, right at the 8:30 am opening, to have the mirrored halls and stained glass mostly to yourself before tour groups arrive around 10 am.

🌿 Persian Gardens
The Fin Garden (Bagh-e Fin), a UNESCO World Heritage site about 6 km southwest of the center, is the oldest extant Persian garden and a masterclass in qanat-fed water channels. Entrance is 400,000 rials for foreign visitors, and it's open daily from 8 am to 7 pm in summer (to 5 pm in winter). Pair it with a visit to the nearby Fin Bathhouse, where the 1852 assassination of Amir Kabir took place, for a dose of dramatic history.

🏺 Bazaar and Crafts
The covered bazaar (Bazar-e Kashan) is a working market, not a tourist trap, and it's the best place to see coppersmiths hammering away in the Coppersmiths' Bazaar (Bazar-e Mesgarha). It's most lively from 9 am to 1 pm and again from 5 pm to 8 pm, and you can buy everything from rosewater to hand-printed textiles. Don't miss the Timcheh-ye Amin al-Dowleh, a beautifully restored 19th-century caravanserai inside the bazaar, now home to a teahouse.

πŸ•Œ Mosques and Shrines
The Jameh Mosque on Baba Afzal Street has a rare brick minaret dating back to the Seljuk period and a peaceful courtyard that sees few tourists. The Imamzadeh-ye Shahzadeh Ibrahim, a shrine with a striking blue dome, is another quiet spot; women must wear a chador, which is provided at the entrance. Both are free to enter, though donations are welcome, and they're open from morning until dusk.

🏜️ Desert Day Trips
The Maranjab Desert, about 60 km northeast of Kashan, offers sand dunes, a historic caravanserai, and a salt lake, and it's best visited at sunrise or sunset. A private taxi for the round trip costs around 2,000,000 rials (about $5) and can be arranged through your hotel; bring water and a hat. For a shorter excursion, the underground city of Noosh Abad (Ouyi), 8 km north of town, is a fascinating man-made labyrinth dating back 1,500 years, with an entrance fee of 200,000 rials.

🌹 Rosewater Season
If you visit in late April or early May, head to the rosewater distilleries in Qamsar and Niasar, about 30 km southwest of Kashan. This is when the Damask roses bloom and the air is thick with their scent; you can watch the traditional copper stills in action and buy fresh rosewater directly from producers. The annual Rosewater Festival in Qamsar usually runs for about 10 days in mid-May, but dates vary, so check locally.

🍽️ Where to Eat
For a memorable meal, try the traditional restaurant at Khan-e Borujerdi, which serves classic Kashani dishes like khoresht-e mast (yogurt stew) and saffron rice in a beautiful courtyard setting. Prices are reasonable, with mains around 800,000 to 1,200,000 rials (about $2 to $3). Another local favorite is the cozy Cafe Shazdeh near the bazaar, known for its herbal teas and homemade cakes, open from 10 am to 10 pm.

πŸ›οΈ Where to Stay
Kashan has some of Iran's best boutique hotels housed in restored historic mansions. The Manouchehri House, a beautifully renovated 19th-century merchant's home, offers rooms from about $60 per night and has a lovely courtyard restaurant. For a budget option, the traditional Noghli House provides simple rooms around $25 per night and is within walking distance of the main sights. Book ahead in spring, especially during rosewater season.

Sultan Amir Ahmad bathhouse, skip the midday crowds.

solid list. the one thing I'd add is the Sultan Amir Ahmad hammam... actually no, someone covered that. instead: check out the Borujerdi house's windcatcher from the alley behind it, not the main entrance. most people never walk around back and the badgir looks way more dramatic from there with nobody around. also the coppersmiths quiet down after like 1pm so go before noon if u wanna see them actually working

πŸ›οΈ Day 1 Morning: Historic Houses
Start your day at the Borujerdi House (open 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, entrance 500,000 rials) and marvel at its intricate plasterwork and windcatchers. A 10-minute walk through the old neighborhood brings you to the Tabatabaei House, another masterpiece of Qajar-era architecture. Both houses are within 500 meters of each other, so you can explore them comfortably before lunch.

πŸ•Œ Day 1 Afternoon: Bazaar and Hammam
After a quick lunch at the nearby Abbasi Traditional Restaurant (around 1:00 PM), head to the Kashan Bazaar, a historic covered market where you can browse spices, textiles, and copperware. From there, visit the Sultan Amir Ahmad Hammam (open until 6:00 PM, entrance 300,000 rials) to see its stunning turquoise and gold tiles. The entire route is walkable, taking about 15 minutes between sites.

🌳 Day 2 Morning: Fin Garden
Take a 15-minute taxi ride (about 200,000 rials) from the city center to the Fin Garden, a UNESCO World Heritage site (open 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, entrance 600,000 rials). Spend two hours wandering its cypress-lined waterways and historic bathhouse. The garden is quietest before 10:00 AM, so arrive early to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

🏺 Day 2 Afternoon: Pottery and Crafts
Return to the city center and visit the Kashan Pottery Workshop (open 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM) where you can watch artisans at work and try your hand at the wheel for 300,000 rials. Then explore the nearby Agha Bozorg Mosque and Madrasa (open 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM), a serene complex with a beautiful courtyard. Both are within a 10-minute walk of each other.

🏜️ Day 3 Morning: Abyaneh Day Trip
Book a private driver or join a tour (around 1,500,000 rials per person) for a 1-hour drive to the red village of Abyaneh. Spend the morning exploring its stepped alleys, traditional houses, and the Jameh Mosque (open 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM). The village is best experienced on foot, so wear comfortable shoes.

🍽️ Day 3 Afternoon: Local Lunch
On your way back to Kashan, stop for lunch at the Abyaneh Traditional Restaurant (around 1:00 PM) and try the local walnut and pomegranate dishes. Return to Kashan by 3:00 PM and use the remaining afternoon to relax at your hotel or revisit a favorite spot. If you have energy, the Manouchehri House offers a lovely courtyard cafe for a final tea.

πŸš• Getting Around Kashan
Kashan's main sights are clustered in the old town, making walking the best way to explore. For longer trips like Fin Garden or the bus station, taxis are readily available and cost around 100,000 to 200,000 rials per ride. Ride-hailing apps like Snapp work in Kashan, but it's wise to have cash for older taxis.

πŸ’‘ Practical Tips for 2026
Book your accommodation in advance, especially during spring (March to May) when Kashan is busiest. Many historic houses have been converted into boutique hotels, such as the Manouchehri House, where double rooms start at around 4,000,000 rials per night. Carry cash in rials for entrance fees and small purchases, as international cards are not accepted.

Skip the hotel cafe and get sohan from a shop on Alavi Street instead, the pistachio ones beat anything near the shrine.

worth adding the underground cistern near the bazaar, aadi, cool & quiet & most people walk right past it

Nice work mapping this out. One thing the plan misses: the rosewater distilleries in Qamsar, about 20 minutes past Fin Garden, are worth a detour in May when the damask roses are being cooked down. The smell alone justifies the trip.
