🍲 Start with Se'i Sapi
Se'i sapi is Kupang's signature smoked beef, and the best place to try it is at Se'i Sapi Pak Haji on Jl. Soekarno-Hatta. A plate with rice and vegetables costs around Rp 35,000 to Rp 50,000, and it's open from 10 AM to 9 PM. The meat is smoked over coconut husks, giving it a rich, deep flavor that pairs perfectly with spicy sambal.

🍜 Bakso and Mie Ayam
For a comforting bowl of bakso, head to Bakso Pak Kumis on Jl. Ahmad Yani. A large bowl costs about Rp 20,000, and they're open from 8 AM to 8 PM. Another favorite is Mie Ayam Pak Tono on Jl. Siliwangi, where the noodles are springy and the chicken topping is generous for around Rp 18,000.

🌢️ Sambal and Grilled Fish
Kupang's coastal location means fresh grilled fish is everywhere. Warung Ikan Bakar Pak Darto on Jl. Timor Raya serves snapper and grouper with a fiery sambal, priced from Rp 40,000 to Rp 70,000 per fish. It's open daily from 5 PM to 11 PM, so it's a great spot for dinner.

🍚 Local Nasi Campur
Nasi campur is a staple in Kupang, and Warung Nasi Campur Bu Yati on Jl. W.J. Lalamentik is a local favorite. For about Rp 25,000, you get rice with a mix of meats, vegetables, and sambal. It's open from 7 AM to 3 PM, so plan for lunch.

πŸ₯€ Refreshing Drinks
To cool down, try es kelapa muda at Es Kelapa Muda Pak Ali on Jl. Piet A. Tallo. A fresh coconut drink costs around Rp 10,000, and it's open from 9 AM to 6 PM. Another option is es teler at Es Teler 77 in the Lippo Plaza Mall on Jl. Timor Raya, where a bowl is about Rp 25,000.

🍒 Street Food at Night
The night market at Alun-Alun Kota Kupang comes alive after 6 PM with satay and other street food. Try sate babi at Sate Babi Pak Gede, where skewers are around Rp 5,000 each. The market is busiest on weekends, so arrive early to snag a seat.

🍰 Sweet Treats
For dessert, Kue Putu at Kue Putu Bu Ani on Jl. Soekarno-Hatta is a must. These steamed rice cakes with palm sugar cost Rp 3,000 per piece, and they're available from 7 AM to 5 PM. Another local sweet is pisang goreng at Pisang Goreng Pak Slamet on Jl. Ahmad Yani, priced at Rp 2,000 per piece.

πŸ’‘ Practical Tips
Most warungs in Kupang are cash-only, so carry small bills. Prices are generally low, with meals ranging from Rp 15,000 to Rp 50,000. The best time to eat street food is after 5 PM when the stalls open, and don't miss the chance to try local coffee at Kopi Timor on Jl. Siliwangi for around Rp 15,000.

Solid list, though I'd add that Se'i Sapi Pak Haji gets packed after Friday prayers, so go on a weekday around 2 PM instead.

appreciate the effort here. tbh I'd swap Es Teler 77 for a roadside es campur stall, mall chains feel the same everywhere. also the ikan kuah asam at warungs near the old port is worth a detour, sour and light.

Nice rundown, saving this. One thing I'd add: ask for sambal lu'at if you can handle heat, it's fermented and way funkier than regular sambal. Also the pasar in Oebobo early morning has cheap bose and fried snacks before the tour buses show up.

Nice work mapping this out. One add for day 2: Tablolong's reef is best on the north side near the fishing boats, way more coral than the main entry point. Also carry small bills, gear rentals rarely break a 100k.

solid list but day 3 is tight, oenesu plus ina bo'i plus airport in one morning is rushing it tbh

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

good rundown, the se'i sapi pick is spot on. one thing id add is bring cash for lasiana, the stalls there never seem to have change & the atm is a trek back into town.
