πŸ› Must-Try Local Dishes
Udaipur's cuisine is dominated by Rajasthani flavors, so start with dal baati churma, a trio of baked wheat balls, lentil curry, and sweet crumbled churma. Also try gatte ki sabzi (gram flour dumplings in yogurt curry) and laal maas, a fiery mutton dish for spice lovers. For a lighter bite, order kachori or mirchi vada from street stalls, usually priced between 20 and 50 rupees.

🍽️ Top Restaurants for Dinner
For a memorable dinner, head to Ambrai at Amet Haveli, near Chandpole, where a meal for two costs around 1,500 to 2,000 rupees and offers lake views. Upre by 1559 AD at Lake Pichola Hotel serves royal Rajasthani thalis for about 1,200 rupees per person. Book ahead for sunset seating, especially from October to March.

πŸ₯˜ Budget-Friendly Thali Spots
A traditional Rajasthani thali is the best value meal in Udaipur, with unlimited refills at many places. Try Natraj Dining Hall on Bapu Bazar, where a thali costs around 250 rupees and is served from 11 am to 10 pm. Another favorite is Sheetla Mata Dining Hall near the Jagdish Temple, offering a similar thali for about 200 rupees.

🍒 Street Food and Snacks
The old city's lanes are packed with street food, especially around Jagdish Temple and Bapu Bazar. Look for kachori stalls near the temple, where you can get two pieces for 30 rupees, and mirchi vada at Ashok Kachori Bhandar on Bhattiyani Chohatta. For something sweet, try jalebi from Jodhpur Sweets on Bapu Bazar, about 80 rupees for 100 grams.

πŸŒ… Rooftop Dining with Views
Udaipur's rooftops combine food with panoramic lake views, and many offer fixed-price meals. Jheel's Ginger Coffee Bar & Restaurant near Lal Ghat serves continental and Indian dishes, with mains around 300 to 500 rupees. For a splurge, Udaivilas' Udai Kothi rooftop offers a romantic setting with a meal for two costing upwards of 3,000 rupees.

πŸ›’ Local Markets and Food Streets
Bapu Bazar is not just for shopping; it's also a food hub with stalls selling namkeen, sweets, and fresh produce. Walk down Bhattiyani Chohatta for a mix of snack stalls and small eateries, and visit the evening market near Fateh Sagar Lake for grilled corn and pakoras. Most stalls operate from 10 am to 9 pm, with peak activity after 5 pm.

🍰 Sweet Treats and Desserts
No meal in Udaipur is complete without a sweet finish, and the city's mithai shops are legendary. Try malpua (fried pancake in syrup) at Ashok Sweet House on Bapu Bazar, or gulab jamun at Jodhpur Sweets for around 20 rupees per piece. For a modern twist, visit The Bake Affair near Fateh Sagar for cakes and pastries from 100 rupees.

πŸ’‘ Practical Dining Tips
Most restaurants in Udaipur open for lunch around 11 am and serve dinner until 10 or 11 pm, but street food stalls are best visited in the evening. Carry cash for street vendors, as many don't accept cards, and expect to pay 200 to 500 rupees for a meal at a mid-range restaurant. Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory; rounding up the bill is common.

Solid writeup. Skip the fixed-price rooftop places and hit Charcoal by Carl near Gulab Bagh for laal maas, way better than most hotel versions. Also the jalebi at Jodhpur Sweets is best around 6pm when they fry fresh batches.

Purohito ka Talab gatte ki sabzi, before noon.

good list, one thing id add is the morning kachori scene which most guides skip. the stalls near Jagdish Temple are fine but the ones by the bus stand open around 7am & that's where locals actually eat before work, two kachoris plus sabzi for like 40 rupees. also natraj thali is solid but expect a queue after 8pm, go early or you'll wait 20 mins. i visited last winter & the rooftop sunset thing is real, book Ambrai two days out

3 Days in Udaipur: Itinerary 2026

πŸ—ΊοΈ Day 1: Old City Core
Start your day at 8:00 AM with a visit to the City Palace, which opens at 9:00 AM; tickets cost around 300 INR for the palace museum. Spend two hours exploring the palace complex, then walk five minutes to Jagdish Temple, a 17th-century Hindu temple with intricate carvings. For lunch, head to Ambrai at Amet Haveli for lake views, or try Natraj Dining Hall for a thali around 200 INR. In the afternoon, visit the Bagore Ki Haveli museum (entry 100 INR) and catch the 7:00 PM Dharohar dance show (tickets 150 INR).

πŸš• Getting Around Udaipur
Udaipur's old city is compact and walkable, but you'll need transport for sights like Sajjangarh or Fateh Sagar. Auto-rickshaws are plentiful; a ride within the old city costs 50-100 INR, while a trip to Sajjangarh (about 8 km) should be around 200 INR. Ride-hailing apps like Ola and Uber operate here, but availability can be spotty; it's often easier to hail an auto directly. For day trips, consider hiring a car with driver for about 1500-2000 INR per day.

🏰 Day 2: Palaces and Lakes
Begin at 9:00 AM with a boat ride on Lake Pichola from Rameshwar Ghat; the 30-minute ride costs 400 INR and offers views of the Lake Palace. Afterward, visit the Jag Mandir island palace (included in some boat tickets) and then head to the Vintage Car Museum (entry 250 INR) near the Gulab Bagh. In the afternoon, take an auto to Sajjangarh Monsoon Palace (entry 110 INR, plus 300 INR for a jeep if you don't want to walk) for sunset views. Dinner options include the Little Prince rooftop restaurant or the Upre by 1559 AD for a splurge.

πŸ› Where to Eat
For breakfast, try the Millets of Mewar near Hanuman Ghat for healthy options like millet pancakes (around 150 INR). Lunch at the Charcoal by Carlsson in the old city offers continental dishes for about 400 INR. For a traditional Rajasthani thali, head to Shree Jee Restaurant near the Jagdish Temple, where a thali costs around 250 INR. Don't miss the kachoris at the street stalls near the Clock Tower, a local favorite for under 50 INR.

πŸ›οΈ Day 3: Markets and Crafts
Start at 10:00 AM with a walk through the Hathipole market, where you can shop for textiles, handicrafts, and souvenirs; bargaining is expected. Visit the nearby Bagore Ki Haveli for a morning tour if you missed it on Day 1. For lunch, try the Cafe Edelweiss near the lake for German-style bread and pastries. In the afternoon, explore the Shilpgram crafts village (entry 50 INR) about 3 km from the city, which showcases traditional arts and crafts from the region.

πŸŒ… Evening Highlights
On your first evening, head to the Ambrai Ghat for a sunset view of the City Palace across the water. The Dharohar dance show at Bagore Ki Haveli is a must-see, starting at 7:00 PM; arrive by 6:30 PM to get good seats. For a quieter evening, visit the Monsoon Palace for panoramic sunset views, but arrange your return transport in advance as autos are scarce after dark. End your trip with a rooftop dinner at Jheel's Ginger Coffee Bar & Bakery, which stays open until 10:30 PM.

πŸ’‘ Practical Tips
Purchase a composite ticket for the City Palace, which includes entry to several museums and costs 700 INR, valid for two days. Carry cash for small purchases and auto rides, as many places don't accept cards. The best time to visit is between October and March when the weather is pleasant; summers can be extremely hot. Book popular shows and restaurants in advance during peak season to avoid disappointment.

Skip the Fateh Sagar auto and walk the Gangaur Ghat to Rani Road stretch at dusk instead, it's flat and far prettier than the ride.

arrow_drop_up 20 arrow_drop_down

Nice effort putting this together, the day-by-day split makes sense. One thing I'd add: the Dharohar show tickets sell out fast in season, so grab them at the Bagore Ki Haveli counter earlier the same day rather than showing up at 6:30 expecting seats. Also the Shilpgram visit is better on a weekday, weekends get crowded with school groups.

arrow_drop_up 16 arrow_drop_down

Solid plan overall, but I'd swap the Sajjangarh jeep for the walk up if you're there before 5, since the road gets jammed with cars at sunset.
