πŸ› Andhra Meals Essentials
Start your Nellore food journey with a traditional Andhra meals thali at Hotel Dwaraka Grand, located on Trunk Road near the RTC Bus Stand. For around β‚Ή250 to β‚Ή350, you get unlimited rice, sambar, rasam, multiple curries, and a sweet, served from 12:00 PM to 3:30 PM. Another reliable option is Sri Sai Ram Mess on Magunta Layout Road, where a veg meals plate costs about β‚Ή150 and is popular with locals for its spicy pappu and avakaya pickle.

πŸ— Spicy Chicken Dishes
Nellore is famous for its fiery chicken dishes, especially the Andhra-style chicken curry and chicken fry. Head to Hotel Minerva Grand on GT Road for their Nellore Chicken Fry, priced around β‚Ή320, served from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM. For a more budget-friendly version, try Sri Lakshmi Chicken Center near Gandhi Statue on Trunk Road, where a plate of spicy chicken fry costs about β‚Ή180 and is best enjoyed with fresh lemon rice.

🐟 Fresh Seafood Spots
Being close to the coast, Nellore offers excellent seafood, particularly prawns and fish fry. Visit Hotel Royal Park on Mini Bypass Road for their Apollo Fish and Prawn Masala, with prices ranging from β‚Ή280 to β‚Ή450, open daily from 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM. For a street-style experience, try the fish fry stalls near Nellore Municipal Market on Sundays, where fresh pomfret fry is sold for about β‚Ή200 per piece from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

πŸ₯ž Street Breakfast Gems
Start your morning with hot idlis and dosas at the street stalls around Trunk Road Market. A plate of two idlis with chutney and sambar costs just β‚Ή30, while a plain dosa is β‚Ή40, available from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM. For a unique Nellore twist, try the pesarattu at Sri Venkateswara Tiffin Center on Pogathota Road, served with upma and ginger chutney for β‚Ή50 until 11:00 AM.

🍬 Sweet Treats to Try
Nellore has a sweet tooth, and you should not miss the local bandar laddu and kajjikayalu. Buy fresh bandar laddu at Sri Krishna Sweets on Trunk Road, priced at β‚Ή400 per kilogram, open from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Another favorite is the dry fruit halwa at Bommidala Sweets on Magunta Layout Road, where a 250-gram box costs around β‚Ή150 and makes a great gift.

πŸŒ™ Evening Snacks and Chats
As the sun sets, the streets around Gandhi Statue come alive with chaat and snack stalls. Try the masala puri and dahi puri at Sharma Chaat Bhandar on Trunk Road, each plate priced at β‚Ή60, served from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. For something more filling, head to Hotel Sree Annamayya on GT Road for their mirchi bajji and punugulu, about β‚Ή50 per plate, available from 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

🍽️ Budget Thali Places
If you are traveling on a budget, Nellore has plenty of affordable thali joints. Sri Balaji Mess on Ranganayakulapet Road offers a unlimited veg thali for just β‚Ή120, served from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Another good pick is Annapurna Mess near Nellore Railway Station, where a non-veg thali with chicken curry costs β‚Ή180, open daily except Tuesdays.

🚌 Getting Around for Food
Most of Nellore's best food spots are concentrated around Trunk Road, GT Road, and Magunta Layout, which are easily reachable by auto-rickshaw. A short auto ride within the city costs β‚Ή50 to β‚Ή80, while shared autos charge β‚Ή15 to β‚Ή20 per person. If you are coming from Nellore Railway Station, take an auto to Trunk Road in about 10 minutes for β‚Ή60, and you will find yourself surrounded by restaurants and street stalls.

good writeup, the seafood section is accurate. one thing i'd add is the ramadan season stalls near the old town mosque, they only run for a month but the haleem and the patthar ka gosht there beat anything on this list. not a year round spot so most guides skip it but if anyone's in nellore around that time its worth planning around.

also fwiw the bandar laddu at Sri Krishna Sweets is good but the fresh stuff at the small shop opposite the municipal market gets made twice a day and tastes way better, costs the same 400 a kilo.

the guide got the big names right but nobody ever talks about the tiffin scene near vedayapalem. there's a tiny place by the water tank that does rava dosa with a garlic chutney i still think about, like 45 rupees, done by 10am so u gotta go early

also small correction on timings, most of the messes on ranganayakulapet shut the afternoon slot by 2:30 not 3, i've been turned away twice thinking i had time. go by 1:30 to be safe

appreciate u putting this together tho, the seafood section is spot on

solid list, covers most of the main spots. one thing missing tho is the morning idli carts near the old bus stand on Trunk Road, the ones that set up around 6am and finish by 8. they do a podi idli with ghee for like 25 bucks that beats most sit-down places. also if u go to Minerva Grand for the chicken fry ask for extra rayalaseema style chutney on the side, they usually give it if you ask and it changes the whole thing.

🚌 Getting Around Nellore
Nellore is spread out, so plan on using auto-rickshaws and city buses for most trips. Autos charge around β‚Ή100 to β‚Ή150 for short hops within the city center, while buses cost β‚Ή10 to β‚Ή20 per ride. From the railway station to Trunk Road takes about 15 minutes by auto, and crossing town from the bus stand to the beach area can take 30 to 40 minutes in traffic. Ride-hailing apps like Ola and Uber work here but can be slow to pick up, so keep a local auto driver's number handy.

πŸ›• Day 1 Morning: Temple Circuit
Start your first day at the Ranganathaswamy Temple on Trunk Road, which opens at 6:00 AM and closes for the afternoon around 12:30 PM. The temple is dedicated to Lord Ranganatha and the morning pooja at 7:00 AM is worth catching. Afterward, walk five minutes to the nearby Penchalakona Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple if you want a smaller, quieter shrine. Budget about two hours for both, then head to a nearby tiffin spot for idli and dosa around β‚Ή40.

πŸ› Day 1 Afternoon: Local Lunch
For an authentic Nellore meal, try the Andhra-style thali at Hotel Dwaraka on Trunk Road, where a full veg thali costs around β‚Ή150 and is served from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The Nellore-style fish pulusu and spicy chicken curry are local favorites if you eat non-veg. After lunch, rest at your hotel or visit the nearby Gandhi Park on Mini Bypass Road, which is free and open until 8:00 PM. This is a good time to recharge before the evening.

🌊 Day 1 Evening: Beach Time
Head to Nellore Beach (also called Mypadu Beach) around 4:30 PM, about 25 km from the city center. An auto or cab will take 40 to 50 minutes and cost roughly β‚Ή400 to β‚Ή500 one way. The beach is best at sunset, and you can find fresh seafood stalls selling grilled prawns and fish for β‚Ή100 to β‚Ή200 per plate. Bring cash because card payments are rare here, and arrange your return transport in advance since autos are scarce after 8:00 PM.

πŸ›οΈ Day 2 Morning: History and Culture
Begin day two at the Nellore Museum on Dargamitta Road, which opens at 10:00 AM and charges a β‚Ή10 entry fee. The collection includes ancient coins, sculptures, and local artifacts from the Pallava and Chola periods. After about an hour, walk 10 minutes to the nearby Venkatagiri Fort ruins, a lesser-known spot with old walls and a small garden. Both sites are close together, so you can cover them in under three hours.

πŸ›οΈ Day 2 Afternoon: Shopping Streets
Spend the afternoon exploring Trunk Road and its side lanes, which are packed with textile shops, jewelry stores, and street vendors. Prices for cotton sarees start around β‚Ή500, and you can bargain at smaller shops. Stop at Sri Sai Ram Parlour for a filter coffee and mirchi bajji snack for about β‚Ή30. The area gets crowded after 5:00 PM, so go earlier if you prefer a calmer browse.

🍽️ Day 2 Evening: Dinner Spots
For dinner, try Hotel Minerva Grand on Mini Bypass Road, which serves North Indian and Chinese dishes with mains from β‚Ή200 to β‚Ή350. It is open until 11:00 PM and has air-conditioned seating. If you want something more local, head to the street food stalls near the bus stand for dosa, idli, and pesarattu at β‚Ή20 to β‚Ή50 per item. Auto rides between these spots take 10 to 15 minutes and cost around β‚Ή80.

🚀 Day 3 Morning: Pulicat Lake
On your final day, take a morning trip to Pulicat Lake, about 50 km from Nellore, which takes roughly 1.5 hours by cab. The lake is a birdwatcher's paradise from November to February, with flamingos and pelicans visible early in the day. A boat ride on the lake costs around β‚Ή300 per person and lasts 30 to 45 minutes. Leave by 6:00 AM to make the most of the cooler hours and return by noon.

β˜• Day 3 Afternoon: Farewell Meal
Back in Nellore, have a late lunch at Hotel Ruchi on Trunk Road, known for its Andhra meals and biryani, with plates from β‚Ή120 to β‚Ή250. The restaurant is open until 3:30 PM for lunch service. After eating, pick up local sweets like Sunnundalu or Ariselu from Sri Krishna Sweets on Trunk Road for β‚Ή200 to β‚Ή300 per box. This is a good time to pack and prepare for your onward journey.

the itinerary is well put together, covers way more than most nellore guides do. one angle nobody mentioned yet is the Ranganatha temple tank, the big pushkarini just west of the main gopuram. locals call it a mini tank but its got steps all around & on a quiet morning you'll see old uncles doing surya namaskaram there, worth 15 min before u go in

also if ur here on a saturday, the vedam classes at the temple pathshala near the eastern entrance start around 8am, kids chanting in unison, its a nice thing to just sit and listen for a bit. free, nobody minds visitors

one correction on day 2, the museum on Dargamitta road has been under renovation on & off since last year so call ahead or ask ur auto driver to confirm its open that week, otherwise u might reach & find the gate locked

arrow_drop_up 14 arrow_drop_down

appreciate the effort here, most nellore writeups stop at the temple and call it done. one thing i'd add for day 3: if ur doing pulicat, the drive via Sullurpeta passes right by the SHAR spaceport turnoff, and on launch days they close the road for hours so check the ISRO schedule before u commit to that morning.

on day 2, instead of fighting the Trunk Road crowds, duck into the lanes behind the old bus stand for the real stuff. there's a tiny place doing ragi sangati with natu kodi pulusu for like 90 bucks and its way better than any of the hotel thalis mentioned. no signboard, ask for "raggi vantillu" and locals will point u.

also carry small change everywhere. autos here almost never have change for 500s and the chai stalls will just wave u off

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

good writeup, covers most of the basics. one thing i'd add is timing for the beach. Mypadu is great at sunset but if u go on a sunday evening its packed with families and the seafood stalls jack up prices a bit, weekday is way more chill

also the return auto situation is real, last time we got stuck and ended up paying 700 to a guy who knew we had no options. save a number before u go

for the pulicat trip, if ur going Nov to Feb definitely carry binoculars, phone camera wont cut it for flamingos. and the road via Sullurpeta has decent breakfast stops around 7am
