Old Market Hall Mumbai 2026, is it still worth a visit?

fmd_goodOld Market Hall · #stalls #market #mumbai
I've been going to Old Market Hall for years and it's lost some of its old buzz lately. Anyone know if the stalls are still running regular hours in 2026 or if it's mostly shut down now? Crawford Market side still busy, rest winds down by 6.

yeah the produce side is still alive but the upper floor stalls pretty much packed up. last i went, most shutters were down by 5:30, so go before lunch if u want the full thing.

the upper floor's been dead for months, honestly the ground floor spice and dry fruit stalls are teh only ones worth the trip now

that 6pm thing is optimistic on weekdays tbh. by 4:30 the meat and poultry guys near the Sheikh Memon St entrance are already hosing down teh floors. sunday morning is when it actually feels like the old place.

sundays are a whole different story there, way more alive than weekdays. rest of the week its pretty sleepy by afternoon honestly.

Best diner near The Daily Plate in Mumbai 2026

Is it mostly old school places or has it shifted toward newer cafes? I'd rather know before I start shortlisting flats in that area.

for late nights u want the khaugalli-type carts near the station instead, that's where the real post-midnight eating happens

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Carts thin out past 1am tbh, so if you're out later than that the only safe bet is the vada pav guy near the signal.

Gulshan e Irani near the station stays busy till 2.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Crawford Market side, past 2.30.

Past 2.30 you're better off heading toward Mohammed Ali Rd, the bhatiyar and paya places near Bhendi Bazaar run till fajr.

True, though the carts cluster by the east side exit rather than the main gate, so walk round if you don't spot them. Peak is around 12.30 when the last locals empty out. Quality drops after that, same guys getting tired.

the daily plate sits in a stretch that's still mostly old school irani and udupi types, irani cafes for chai and bun maska, udupi for dosa. newer cafes have crept in but the diner feel is the older spots. check the lane behind it around 8am to see what's actually open early

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

yeah but most shut by 9pm, thats the catch

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

koolar & co on dr ambedkar rd, open till midnight

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Fair point, though a few places near Dadar station run till 11 if you count the udupi thali joints.
