Mumbai noise complaints 2026: does anything actually work

fmd_goodThe Print Room · #mumbai #construction #noise
honestly the construction noise near my place has been nonstop and the bar below doesnt help either. has anyone actually gotten the ward office to do something about it in 2026 or is it just shouting… honestly the construction noise near my place has been nonstop and the bar below doesnt help either. has anyone actually gotten the ward office to do something about it in 2026 or is it just shouting into the void

file a written complaint at ur ward office & get the receipt stamp, then escalate to the 1916 helpline with that number

Image susan local ·

The stamped receipt is the part most people skip, and it's what makes 1916 actually traceable. Keep the complaint number too, because the ward and the helpline don't always talk to each other. Mine got a site visit within ten days once I had both.

Mine only moved once I copied the Ward Officer's PA directly, so chase that name and not just the number.

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

Stamped copy matters more than the helpline call honestly.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Keep a copy of that number, 1916 loses it otherwise

Image susann local ·

Log the complaint time and clerk's name on that copy too, since 1916 quoted me a reference number that didn't match what the ward had logged.

Ask them to write the complaint number on the stamped copy yourself before leaving the counter, since the clerk won't always do it. Then a follow up visit to the same ward office after about two weeks tends to get more movement than phone calls.

Two weeks is about right, and bringing the photos to that follow up in person is what actually gets the ward moving.

Worth adding the bar angle: after 10pm that's a police complaint too, so copy the local station along with your ward receipt.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Escalate to the Ward Officer in person with photos time-stamped, since bar noise after 10pm falls under the police too, not just the BMC.

Old Market Hall Mumbai 2026, is it still worth a visit?

fmd_goodOld Market Hall · #stalls #market #mumbai
I've been going to Old Market Hall for years and it's lost some of its old buzz lately. Anyone know if the stalls are still running regular hours in 2026 or if it's mostly shut down now? Crawford Market side still busy, rest winds down by 6.

yeah the produce side is still alive but the upper floor stalls pretty much packed up. last i went, most shutters were down by 5:30, so go before lunch if u want the full thing.

the upper floor's been dead for months, honestly the ground floor spice and dry fruit stalls are teh only ones worth the trip now

that 6pm thing is optimistic on weekdays tbh. by 4:30 the meat and poultry guys near the Sheikh Memon St entrance are already hosing down teh floors. sunday morning is when it actually feels like the old place.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

sundays are a whole different story there, way more alive than weekdays. rest of the week its pretty sleepy by afternoon honestly.
