I haven't worked there, but from what I gathered on visits, Bandra rents alone will eat most of a chef's salary unless you're sharing a flat. Slice & Co likely pays somewhere in the 25k to 40k range depending on experience, so a shared PG or roommates is basically the norm.
Fair point, though Slice & Co's Khar and Lower Parel outlets pull slightly different rates depending on tips and overtime.
Tips and overtime can swing the monthly take-home by a fair bit, so worth asking staff directly when you visit.
Khar runs quieter weekdays so the base there sits lower, while the outlet near Linking Road pulls more weekend footfall.
Sharing's definitely the reality, though a lot of kitchen staff skip Bandra entirely and rent in Santacruz East or Kalina, which shaves a good 8k to 10k off. Commute's short enough by auto. The 40k end usually means a few years on a proper oven, not just a year or two.
yeah the auto from Kalina to Bandra is barely 15 min off peak, just watch the monsoon flooding on the low bits

yeah the produce side is still alive but the upper floor stalls pretty much packed up. last i went, most shutters were down by 5:30, so go before lunch if u want the full thing.
the upper floor's been dead for months, honestly the ground floor spice and dry fruit stalls are teh only ones worth the trip now
that 6pm thing is optimistic on weekdays tbh. by 4:30 the meat and poultry guys near the Sheikh Memon St entrance are already hosing down teh floors. sunday morning is when it actually feels like the old place.
sundays are a whole different story there, way more alive than weekdays. rest of the week its pretty sleepy by afternoon honestly.
