How do you deal with noise in Mumbai in 2026?

Has anyone actually gotten BMC or the police to act on a noise complaint, or is it just a waste of a phone call? Curious what's worked for people, whether it's soundproofing the windows or a builder who takes it seriously.

Honestly the bar crowd is a licensing issue more than a cops issue. Check if the place has a late night permit and if not, a complaint to the excise department hits harder than a noise call. Bars lose licences over that stuff so they actually listen.

Excise complaint needs the permit number, ask them for it.

good point, but getting the permit number out of them is the trick, most bars will just stall u. i'd say go via the ward office instead so it's on paper... they push harder when there's a reference number sitting there

fwiw the BMC complaint line does work but you have to log it in the BMC Aaple Sarkar portal, not just call. A written complaint gets you a reference number and someone from the A ward office actually has to respond. Kala Ghoda falls under that ward. Took my building three follow-ups but the bar near us got a sound limit warning. Also check if your flat has single glazing, swapping to laminated glass cut the honking a lot for us.

Laminated glass helped us too, ask for the acoustic grade not the standard one

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

yeah acoustic grade is the 6mm+6mm with a PVB interlayer, most shops in Bhuleshwar will quote you teh plain stuff unless u ask specifically.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

ask them to show u the PVB test certificate too, some shops pass off plain laminated as acoustic ngl

warrant officer at the ward office, ask for him by name

Names help but the A ward office has shifted desks twice in the last year, so call ahead before you go. Also ask for the complaint in writing on the spot, the verbal assurance means nothing later.

the portal route works but track the complaint number weekly, A ward sits on it otherwise.

₹280 flat white, Kala Ghoda end.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

280 sounds about right for that side, though the Fort end prob runs closer to 250 if ur willing to walk 10 min.

Common Grounds is fine for a sit-down but I'd walk over to Magazine Street for a proper cup, the small roaster there pulls a decent cortado. Prices have crept up, expect around ₹250-300 most places now.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down
Image marlis local ·

agree, but the bandra spot pulls a better one

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Image annerike local ·

yeah the roaster's good but their cortado is tiny for the price. if u want a proper sit-down flat white with actual crema try the place off Pali Naka, closer to ₹300 but worth it. what did you mean by "bandra spot" though?
