Apps do most of the introductions, but I've seen plenty of conversations start at the Bandra outposts of places like The Baker's Dozen over a coffee. Coffee first is the norm here, dinner feels like a bigger commitment given the commute. What surprised me was how much people rely on mutual friends to vet someone before the first meet.
The mutual-friends vetting is real, but Lower Parel's Khar Social crowd skips it and just asks for your Instagram before coffee.
That Instagram-first crowd thins out fast once you hit 30, then it's back to someone's cousin doing the reference check.
Fair point, though the crowd at Toto's in Juhu does the same thing and nobody calls it a Lower Parel habit. What I've noticed is the Instagram ask usually comes after the second drink, not before the coffee.

Mutual friends do a lot of quiet work, but the vetting I've seen happens over family WhatsApp groups more than friends. Coffee first holds mostly because nobody wants to commit to a two hour dinner plus a return commute from Andheri. Dinner gets planned once the coffee has already gone well.
family group vetting is honestly underrated, my cousin got screened before she even met the guy. coffee first also just fits how scattered everyone is across the suburbs, a powai to town dinner is basically a trip

the glazed is fine but the chocolate old fashioned is the real one to get there. go before 11am, they sell out & the later batches sit around. honestly i prefer the plain cake donuts at the bakery near bandra station for half the price
