Best homestyle thali near The Indian Baithak in 2026?

Anyone been recently? I'm mainly after a solid homestyle thali rather than the fancy stuff, so curious if it's worth sitting down or better for takeaway.

try sai deep on the next gully for a proper ghar ka khana thali, unlimited chapati & the dal is thick not watery, go before 12.30 to skip the office rush

Sai Deep's bhakri is the real draw, not the chapati

Gulshan's lunch thali, 1pm sharp

Thali finishes by 2.30 there, go earlier than 1.

1pm works only on weekdays, Sunday they run the thali till 2 and the queue snakes past the tailor shop.

Ask for the extra kadhi on the side, that's the part nobody mentions and it's better than the shrikhand.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

yeah 1pm is right but go on a weekday, Saturday the office crowd fills it by 12.45 and the aamras runs out

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Weekdays only though, and they stop serving by about 2.30 so don't push it past 1.15. The chaas comes free with it which nobody tells you.

The Baithak itself is fine for sitting down but their thali is more restaurant-style than ghar ka khana. For proper homestyle, walk five minutes to Anand Bhavan on the parallel lane, the Gujarati thali there is unlimited and they don't rush you. Around 8pm it's calmer than lunch. Takeaway from the Baithak works if you're eating within ten minutes, the rotis go stiff fast.

fwiw Anand Bhavan's farsan refill is where it's at, they keep coming round with the khaman. only catch is Monday it's shut. u sure about the calm bit tho? last time i went it was packed with families

datar nagori cafe: worth the detour in 2026?

visiting mumbai in march 2026 and datar nagori keeps coming up as a cafe stop. is it actually worth the trip out there or should i stick to places closer to the main sights? also what's the best thing… visiting mumbai in march 2026 and datar nagori keeps coming up as a cafe stop. is it actually worth the trip out there or should i stick to places closer to the main sights? also what's the best thing to order there

it's tiny & mostly standing room, so go before 9am or after 4 to actually get a table. irani cafe vibes with the old tiles & bentwood chairs, worth it if ur already doing fort. order the mawa cake with ur chai, not many places still bake it fresh

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

datar nagori's a proper irani chai stop, not a cafe detour. get the brun maska and chai, skip the rest.

fair, but the keema pav at lunch is the sleeper hit, and they run out by 1pm sharp.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down
Image emily local ·

keema's only on mon, wed, fri btw, so check the day before u trek out there.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Image kristiane local ·

agreed on skipping the rest except the chai, but their raspberry soda is the actual sleeper & costs like 40 bucks

Irani chai's the point, toast is secondary
