Is Vintage Avenue in Mumbai worth it for thrift shopping in 2026?

Anyone been recently and can say whether the prices at Vintage Avenue make sense for what you get?

Hill Road branch, go on weekday mornings.

arrow_drop_up 20 arrow_drop_down

weekday mornings work but go before 11 or the aunties from the nearby classes have already cleared the good racks

Before noon, stock gets restocked Thursdays.

Agree, though 3pm onwards the good stuff is gone.

mornings are fine but the racks get reshuffled saturday nights too, so sunday opening is decent if u can handle the crowd. also check the back section near the trial room, that's where the better denim ends up

Bandra store closes 8:30, cash only.

yeah but avoid month end, rent day crowd

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Honestly opening time is the move, but check the racks by the mirror first. Staff pull the decent stuff there after closing so it's freshest right at open. By noon it's picked clean.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

also ask the staff if a fresh bale came in, they'll sometimes pull pieces from the back before it hits the racks

The sourcing is the real issue. A lot of what's on the racks is imported bale stock that's been picked over, so you're paying a curation markup on things that were never that special to begin with. Prices make sense for maybe one in ten pieces. Check the tags for wear at the seams before you commit, and don't trust the "vintage" label on anything that looks like it was made in the last five years.

City Market Mumbai grocery prices 2026: fair or tourist tax?

fmd_goodCity Market · #market #prices #almonds
I was quoted 400 rupees for a kilo of almonds at a stall in City Market, which felt steep compared to what I pay back home. Is that the normal 2026 rate or was I being given the visitor price? city market is crawford market btw

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

yeah crawford market is the wholesale side, the retail stalls along the main road are where they quote u the tourist price

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Image lilliweigelt local ·

400 for a kilo of badam is actually not wild in 2026, wholesale badam is running 700-900/kg depending on quality so 400 sounds like the cheap mamra type, not tourist pricing. the real tourist tax at crawford is on stuff like saffron and cashews, where they quote double if u look unsure. walk to the back lanes near the fish section for the actual rates

fair point on the mamra, but the back lanes near the fish section are mostly closed by 2pm so go morning
