Also is UPI the only way locals pay there? I'm from the US and don't have an Indian bank account yet.

their card machine sometimes loses network around 9pm on weekends, so keep some cash as backup. swiggy and zomato both work with foreign cards if u wanna order in instead, but the in-person vibe is worth it

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

yeah that network drop is real, i just ask them to run it as offline mode and it goes through fine

weekend rush means the machine queues up even when signal's fine, so tap early before the bill lands

happens closer to 10.30 in my experience

stone & barrel takes visa and mastercard fine, i've tapped my us-issued card there before. upi is everywhere in mumbai but it's not required, most places still run a card machine. carry a couple thousand in cash for tips & the odd stall nearby

also keep small notes for the valet guy out front, he won't have change for a 500

valet usually asks for a hundred flat so just hand it over before he parks, saves the awkward change hunt

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

the area around it is mostly cashless now, even the cutting chai wallah takes UPI, so dont stress about carrying stacks of rupees

I want to sell my old clothes

arrow_drop_up 132 arrow_drop_down

have u tried the chor bazaar route? not for selling to shops but the friday morning flea guys near mumbadevi, some of them buy vintage/retro pieces outright and pay better than the bale walas if ur stuff has any character. got 800 for a bunch of old levi's and band tees there. thing is u gotta go early like 6am and know how to hold ur ground, they smell desperation instantly

one thing nobody mentioned, watch out for the weight vs piece thing. kabadiwalas and bale buyers pay by kilo so heavy stuff like denim and woolens actually earn more than fancy light stuff. i cleared a whole bag of old jeans to a guy in Malad for way better than what my branded shirts fetched. also wash everything before u show it, sounds obvious but dusty clothes get lowballed on sight.

honestly the timing matters more than the platform. end of month is when people get salary and actually buy, so list ur stuff around the 1st or 2nd. also post pics in natural light near a window, not on ur bed with flash, makes a huge difference on OLX and insta thrift pages. i've flipped a lot of my old stuff this way and the same kurta that got ignored at 300 sold for 500 when i relisted it properly.
