Is the tea at Camellia House in Mumbai a scam?

fmd_goodCamellia House · #mumbai #camellia
Stopped by Camellia House on my trip and was quoted a pretty steep price for a pot of tea, plus some extra charge I didn't quite follow. Is that normal there or did I get taken for a ride in 2026? the pot price usually covers leaves they'll re-steep for you, so ask for hot water refills or you're paying twice. And check the bill for a "cover charge" per head, some Colaba places sneak it in.

refills are free only if u ask before they pour, otherwise they charge per kettle ngl

ask for the second steep in a separate cup or they just top up the same pot and charge you for fresh leaves

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

that extra charge is likely the service tax they add on top, normal for south bombay tea places, but a pot over 400 is steep even for 2026

Service tax is only 5 percent on food and beverage, so a 400 pot still doesn't add up.

gst is 5 percent but most places round up to 18 on the bill

Camellia House is the tourist trap, not the tea.

Fair, but the location does half the work.

honestly yeah, its teh address doing the heavy lifting, same pot tastes different two lanes over.

Yeah, you're paying for the name and the crowd-watching more than the leaves. Locals stick to the small Irani places tucked off the main roads where nobody's marking up the view.

I want to sell my old clothes

arrow_drop_up 19 arrow_drop_down

have u tried the chor bazaar route? not for selling to shops but the friday morning flea guys near mumbadevi, some of them buy vintage/retro pieces outright and pay better than the bale walas if ur stuff has any character. got 800 for a bunch of old levi's and band tees there. thing is u gotta go early like 6am and know how to hold ur ground, they smell desperation instantly

one thing nobody mentioned, watch out for the weight vs piece thing. kabadiwalas and bale buyers pay by kilo so heavy stuff like denim and woolens actually earn more than fancy light stuff. i cleared a whole bag of old jeans to a guy in Malad for way better than what my branded shirts fetched. also wash everything before u show it, sounds obvious but dusty clothes get lowballed on sight.

honestly the timing matters more than the platform. end of month is when people get salary and actually buy, so list ur stuff around the 1st or 2nd. also post pics in natural light near a window, not on ur bed with flash, makes a huge difference on OLX and insta thrift pages. i've flipped a lot of my old stuff this way and the same kurta that got ignored at 300 sold for 500 when i relisted it properly.
