Mumbai zoo in 2026: is it still worth the crowds?

For locals, a Tuesday or Wednesday morning right after opening is the only sane time to go, otherwise you're shuffling behind school groups all afternoon. Did it always get this packed, or is it just the penguin effect since they arrived?

Honestly it was never this bad in the 2000s, weekends were manageable. Now the whole Byculla stretch clogs up, so I just take the train and walk in from the station side to dodge the Dr Ambedkar Road mess.

Train side is definitely smarter now, though the skywalk exit drops you closer to the Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk end and that stretch smells rough by mid morning. I still cut through the side lane past the school if I'm cycling in.

School groups are the real clog, not the penguins.

yeah the station side walk is the move, i cut in from the east exit past the taxi stand. weekends back then were fine because half of byculla didnt bother going in at all. now everyone shows up by 10

true, weekend crowds back then were mostly families from the chawls nearby. now it's people driving in from Bandra and Powai because of instagram. i still walk it from the east side but those pay-and-park queues on the museum road are whats really choking things

Museum road parking fills by 8:30 now, so out-of-towners block the lane well before gates open.

Walking in from the station side also dodges that awful signal near the zoo gate where everyone tries to turn at once. I've started doing the same, though I cut through the lane behind the hospital to skip the footpath crush.

penguins did bring the crowd but honestly the flamingo pond side stays quiet even on sundays. i'd skip the weekends entirely & do a wednesday 9am walk, gate opens sharp & the animals are actually active before the heat hits

the flamingo side also has the shade till 10ish

Shade holds past 10 on the north stretch

I want to sell my old clothes

arrow_drop_up 29 arrow_drop_down

have u tried the chor bazaar route? not for selling to shops but the friday morning flea guys near mumbadevi, some of them buy vintage/retro pieces outright and pay better than the bale walas if ur stuff has any character. got 800 for a bunch of old levi's and band tees there. thing is u gotta go early like 6am and know how to hold ur ground, they smell desperation instantly

one thing nobody mentioned, watch out for the weight vs piece thing. kabadiwalas and bale buyers pay by kilo so heavy stuff like denim and woolens actually earn more than fancy light stuff. i cleared a whole bag of old jeans to a guy in Malad for way better than what my branded shirts fetched. also wash everything before u show it, sounds obvious but dusty clothes get lowballed on sight.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

honestly the timing matters more than the platform. end of month is when people get salary and actually buy, so list ur stuff around the 1st or 2nd. also post pics in natural light near a window, not on ur bed with flash, makes a huge difference on OLX and insta thrift pages. i've flipped a lot of my old stuff this way and the same kurta that got ignored at 300 sold for 500 when i relisted it properly.
