Sion East Mysteries?

check out the area around Sion Talao if you get a chance. the tank itself is nothing special now but the older Marathi families living around it have been there for generations, and they'll point you toward a couple of tiny Hanuman and Devi shrines wedged between the chawls that don't show up anywhere online. some of the buildings still have the old wada gateways with carved wooden doors if you look up. go on a weekday evening when the kids are playing cricket in the lanes, it feels like a different city from the station road chaos

if you're into the history angle, look for the old British-era cemetery off the road behind Sion hospital. its easy to miss, just a wall and a gate, but the headstones go back to the 1800s and some are for soldiers and East India Company folks. the caretaker there knows a lot if you catch him in the morning. also the area around Sion fort itself is worth an hour, the ruins are small but the view over the creek from the top is something most people never bother with.

theres a whole layer of Sion East people miss because they stick to the station road. walk down towards the Dharavi end, past the market, and you'll hit pockets of old East Indian gaothans where the houses still have those sloping Mangalore tile roofs. the area was basically a cluster of villages before the mills came, and some of the old well shrines (people call them pyaavs) are still tucked between buildings. imo the best time is early sunday when the fisherfolk from the nearby koliwada are heading out, the whole place feels different.

have u tried the chor bazaar route? not for selling to shops but the friday morning flea guys near mumbadevi, some of them buy vintage/retro pieces outright and pay better than the bale walas if ur stuff has any character. got 800 for a bunch of old levi's and band tees there. thing is u gotta go early like 6am and know how to hold ur ground, they smell desperation instantly

one thing nobody mentioned, watch out for the weight vs piece thing. kabadiwalas and bale buyers pay by kilo so heavy stuff like denim and woolens actually earn more than fancy light stuff. i cleared a whole bag of old jeans to a guy in Malad for way better than what my branded shirts fetched. also wash everything before u show it, sounds obvious but dusty clothes get lowballed on sight.

honestly the timing matters more than the platform. end of month is when people get salary and actually buy, so list ur stuff around the 1st or 2nd. also post pics in natural light near a window, not on ur bed with flash, makes a huge difference on OLX and insta thrift pages. i've flipped a lot of my old stuff this way and the same kurta that got ignored at 300 sold for 500 when i relisted it properly.
