The street food was incredible, spicy vada pavs and chai from those tiny stalls that spill onto the pavement. I got completely lost several times in the narrow lanes, though. It felt like an adventure each time but, seriously, I nearly missed my flight! What's the best way to navigate those backstreets without getting hopelessly turned around?

The trick I've found when I visit is to time your wandering around the light, because those lanes look completely different after dark and half the landmarks you memorized vanish. If you're heading back toward the station side, the vegetable market off Road No. 24 is a solid anchor during the day, but it packs up by around 8pm and then you're just guessing. For a quick exit, the auto wallahs near the Sai Baba temple will get you to Amar Mahal junction for a flat 30 or 40 rupees, no meter, and they know every gap in the traffic.

Suman Nagar is basically a triangle wedged between the Eastern Express Highway and the harbour line tracks, so the trick is to keep one of those as your reference point. If you can hear the trains, you're never truly lost, just walk toward the sound and you'll hit the road that runs along the station side. The lanes off Road No. 24 near the Sai Baba temple are the worst for dead ends, those ones genuinely loop back on themselves. For getting out fast, head for the Suman Nagar bridge or the Amar Mahal junction side rather than trying to cut through the interior.

honestly the trick I use is just to follow the chai wallahs, they always know the shortcuts. also those lanes near the station side change names every few blocks so don't trust google maps, ask the paanwala instead.

I want to sell my old clothes

arrow_drop_up 26 arrow_drop_down

have u tried the chor bazaar route? not for selling to shops but the friday morning flea guys near mumbadevi, some of them buy vintage/retro pieces outright and pay better than the bale walas if ur stuff has any character. got 800 for a bunch of old levi's and band tees there. thing is u gotta go early like 6am and know how to hold ur ground, they smell desperation instantly

one thing nobody mentioned, watch out for the weight vs piece thing. kabadiwalas and bale buyers pay by kilo so heavy stuff like denim and woolens actually earn more than fancy light stuff. i cleared a whole bag of old jeans to a guy in Malad for way better than what my branded shirts fetched. also wash everything before u show it, sounds obvious but dusty clothes get lowballed on sight.

honestly the timing matters more than the platform. end of month is when people get salary and actually buy, so list ur stuff around the 1st or 2nd. also post pics in natural light near a window, not on ur bed with flash, makes a huge difference on OLX and insta thrift pages. i've flipped a lot of my old stuff this way and the same kurta that got ignored at 300 sold for 500 when i relisted it properly.
