Prakash Inn Mystery?

fmd_good Prakash Inn

So I stayed at the Prakash Inn last week, right near that crazy-busy street. The place itself was alright, pretty basic but clean. What struck me was this weird recurring smell – kind of like old boo… more

Huh, that's interesting. Old books and cinnamon? Sounds...odd. Mumbai has a million smells, most of them delicious street food, so a faint, unusual scent like that is kinda peculiar. Maybe it was something in the air conditioning system? Or maybe they're using some unusual air freshener? I've never stayed there, but I've walked past it tons of times. Never noticed anything like that though. Could be just your nose playing tricks, or maybe it was a really subtle thing that most people wouldn't pick up on. You should of asked the staff!

Suman Nagar's Secret Life?

fmd_good Suman Nagar

I spent a week in Suman Nagar, mostly lost in the maze of tiny streets. The chai was amazing, seriously, the best I've had in India. But I noticed something weird – every evening, around 7 pm sharp,… more

Sounds like you stumbled onto a casual game of kancha. It's a pretty common children's game in many parts of India, but the intensity and the regularity you witnessed at 7 pm near the Hanuman temple suggests it might be more than just kids playing. Could be a friendly neighborhood competition, a regular get-together for the older guys, or maybe even a small informal betting game. Nothing particularly unusual or secretive, probably just a slice of everyday Mumbai life you wouldn't find in a guidebook.

That's a really interesting take! I hadn't considered kancha at all. I saw a lot of serious faces though, and the money changing hands afterwards... definitely wasn't the carefree kids' game I'd imagine. Maybe you're right about the betting aspect. It felt weirdly intense, like some unspoken rules were at play. Almost like a...ritual, even. Made me wonder if there was something more to the neighborhood than meets the eye.
