Finding peace in IAC?

It's supposed to be this quiet, tucked-away residential area, a stark contrast to the crazy energy of Mumbai. I'm picturing peaceful morning walks, maybe some street food discoveries. But I've heard stories... apparently, it gets surprisingly noisy sometimes? Is it mostly quiet, or are there specific times of day I should avoid for that peaceful vibe I'm hoping for?

honestly the noise thing is real but it's more about timing than anything. the school nearby rings a bell at 7am sharp and kids start shouting during breaks around 10 and 2, that's the loudest it gets. if you're out before 7 or after 8pm it's dead quiet, like you can hear birds and auto-rickshaws from two blocks away.

for street food, skip the chai stalls near the main gate and walk toward the lane behind the post office. there's a guy who sets up a vada pav cart around 5pm, uses a slightly spicier chutney than most places. only downside is he's gone by 7 so you gotta be quick.

btw if you want a real peaceful walk head toward the seafront side of IAC, past the old bungalows. the trees there are massive and the air actually smells different, less exhaust more jasmine.

Depends what you call "noisy." IAC is definitely quieter than most of Mumbai, that's for sure. But it's not exactly a silent monastery. Think more "busy residential area" than "serene retreat." Traffic can get pretty hectic during rush hour, especially on the main roads. Evenings can be a bit lively too, with families hanging out. Early mornings are your best bet for peace and quiet, before the city really wakes up. Street food is hit-or-miss; you'll find some good stuff, but also plenty of average stuff. Don't expect some amazing hidden culinary scene.

The key is knowing which pocket of IAC you're in. The rows of chawls near Kalina get the school announcements and auto horns, but if you walk deeper toward the Santacruz end, past the old bungalows with the frangipani trees, it's a different world entirely. That stretch stays quiet even at 6pm when the rest of the colony is alive with kids playing cricket.

For food, there's a bhajiya wala near the IAC club who sets up around 4:30. His batter is thinner and crispier than the usual heavy stuff, and he uses a bright green pudina chutney that's hard to find elsewhere. Just don't expect him to be there on Wednesdays, that's his off day.

I want to sell my old clothes

ngl the easiest way is to just hand them over to a scrapwala near your building, they'll sort through and take what they want, rest goes to recycling. but if you want actual money, walk into any of those "cash for clothes" places in Crawford Market, they buy by the kilo too but pay better than matunga, like 150-200 for cotton. just don't bring anything with stains or tears, they'll reject it outright and you'll waste your time hauling it there

fwiw you could also try the Instagram thrift stores that are based out of mumbai, like "bombay thrift store" or "mumbai thrift club". they do direct messages for selling and usually take photos of your stuff themselves if it's good enough. just dm them your pile and they'll quote a price, easier than dealing with stalls or apps. also, if you have any branded stuff, try the "luxury thrift" pages instead, they pay way better for zara or h&m than the general ones

The St. Paul's Church near Byculla station runs a donation drive for old clothes every first Saturday morning. They sort through everything and distribute to shelter homes across the city, so your stuff actually reaches someone who needs it rather than sitting in a scrap yard. Just drop off before 11am or the volunteers pack up for the day.
