๐Ÿ•Œ Golden Temple Visit
Start your trip at the Golden Temple, the spiritual heart of Amritsar. Entry is free and open 24 hours, but the best time to visit is early morning or late evening to see the temple reflected in the sacred pool. Dress modestly and cover your head; scarves are available at the entrance.

๐Ÿ› Langar at the Temple
Don't miss the langar, a free community meal served daily at the Golden Temple's dining hall. Over 100,000 people are fed here each day, and you can join as a volunteer to help serve or wash dishes. The meal is simple but filling, usually dal, roti, and rice.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ Wagah Border Ceremony
The daily Beating Retreat ceremony at Wagah Border, about 30 km from Amritsar, is a must-see. Gates open at 3 PM, and the ceremony starts at sunset; arrive early for a good seat. Buses and taxis are available from the city center, costing around INR 200-500 per person.

๐Ÿด Amritsari Food Tour
Amritsar is a food lover's paradise. Head to Kesar Da Dhaba for authentic chole bhature and lassi, or try the famous butter chicken at Bharawan Da Dhaba. For street food, visit the narrow lanes near the Golden Temple for kulcha and jalebis; most stalls are open from 8 AM to 10 PM.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Jallianwala Bagh Memorial
Just a 5-minute walk from the Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh is a poignant memorial to the 1919 massacre. The site includes a museum with photographs and artifacts, open from 6 AM to 9 PM. Entry is free, and it's a sobering but essential part of understanding India's history.

๐Ÿš‚ Partition Museum
Located in the Town Hall building near the Golden Temple, the Partition Museum tells the story of the 1947 division of India. It's open from 10 AM to 6 PM, closed on Mondays, with an entry fee of INR 100 for adults. Allow at least two hours to explore the exhibits.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Hall Bazaar Shopping
For souvenirs, head to Hall Bazaar, a bustling market near the Golden Temple. You'll find Phulkari embroidery, Punjabi juttis (shoes), and brassware. Bargaining is expected, and most shops are open from 10 AM to 9 PM. Try the nearby Guru Bazaar for spices and dry fruits.

๐ŸŒ† Evening at Company Bagh
Company Bagh, also known as the Ram Bagh Garden, is a peaceful spot for an evening stroll. The garden features a summer palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, now a museum open from 10 AM to 5 PM. Entry is free, and it's a great place to relax after a day of sightseeing.

i'd add that the heritage street leading to the golden temple is worth walking slowly. the restored facades and local craft stalls are a nice break from the chaos of hall bazaar. go around 6pm when the lights come on and it's less crowded

for a different food stop try baba chicken shop near hall bazaar for their tandoori chicken. no seating, just a counter and you eat standing on the street. costs about 250 for a half chicken and the marinade has this slight smokiness from the charcoal that the famous places dont replicate

the company bagh museum has a small section on ranjit singh's swords and armor that most people walk past. ask the guard to unlock the side room if it's closed, they usually will. takes ten minutes but the craftsmanship is wild

solid list but i gotta say the food section undersells the street chai scene. near the golden temple's main entrance theres a guy with a small stall who makes this insane ginger-cardamom chai for like 5 rupees a cup. hes been there for decades and locals line up before sunrise. way better than the fancy cafes charging 100 bucks for the same thing

also if you're into history the partition museum has a free audio guide app you can download before going. saved me from reading every panel and i got through it faster while still catching all the heavy stuff. the personal letters section wrecked me for real

one thing nobody mentions - theres a small roof terrace at the heritage street near the golden temple where you can watch the parikrama from above. ask any shopkeeper near the langar hall entrance and they'll point u to the stairs. best view without the crowd pushing u around

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

honestly this is a solid list but u missed one thing - the night life near the golden temple is something else. after 10pm the crowds thin out and you can sit on the parikrama steps for hours just watching the reflection change colors. its super peaceful and prob the most magical time to be there

also for food i'd add kulcha lovers gotta try the ones at the corner shop near jallianwala bagh gate, not the famous ones in hall bazaar. cheaper and honestly better imo, they're stuffed with paneer and the chole is spicier. costs like 40 bucks a plate

one more tip - if you're doing wagah border in summer bring a cap and water. the sun is brutal in the stands and they dont let u bring bottles past a point. saw a few people nearly pass out last time i went

Amritsar trip in 3 months, whats a realistic budget?

heading to Amritsar in about 3 months with my cousin and were trying to figure out what to set aside. were thinking 3 days, golden temple plus maybe wagah border and lots of food. is 15k per person enโ€ฆ heading to Amritsar in about 3 months with my cousin and were trying to figure out what to set aside. were thinking 3 days, golden temple plus maybe wagah border and lots of food. is 15k per person enough or am i underestimating teh food and auto costs? ๐Ÿ’ฐ
arrow_drop_up 11 arrow_drop_down

15k is doable if you're not staying right at the temple. dharamshalas near the parikrama are like 500 a night and honestly clean enough. the real money sink is autos, they'll quote you 300 for a 60 rupee ride from the station so just use uber or ola. food is cheap, langar is free and a full kulfi falooda at giani di hatti runs maybe 80.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

If you're doing Wagah, factor in the shared cab or bus from the city, it's a solid half day gone and the return gets pricey if you stay for the retreat ceremony. 15k each should cover you fine for 3 days as long as you don't splurge on a fancy hotel, most people overspend on shopping at Hall Bazaar more than anything else.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

honestly 15k is fine but the thing nobody mentions is the golden temple area has free or super cheap rooms run by the sgpc, you just gotta book early or show up and wait. that saves you a big chunk right there. put that extra into the food, amritsari kulcha and lassi at the places near hall bazaar will run you maybe 200 for a full meal and its worth every rupee
