๐Ÿฒ Where to Start
Begin your culinary journey at the Carrefour Market food court, located at 123 Main Street, open daily from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Try the griot with pikliz for $10, a classic Haitian dish of crispy pork and spicy slaw. For a quick bite, the patty stand near the entrance sells beef patties for $3 each. This is the perfect introduction to the local flavors.

๐Ÿ— Top Restaurants
Chez Marie at 456 Rue de la Paix serves authentic Haitian cuisine like tassot cabrit (fried goat) for $15, open Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Le Gourmet at 789 Avenue du Soleil offers a fusion menu with dishes like creole shrimp pasta for $18, and is open for lunch and dinner. Both places are popular, so reservations are recommended on weekends.

๐ŸŒฎ Street Food Stalls
The night market on Boulevard des Champs opens at 6:00 PM and features stalls selling accra (fried malanga fritters) for $2 and bannann peze (fried plantains) for $3. Look for the grill at the corner of Rue St. Jean and Rue St. Pierre, where you can get grilled corn with epis seasoning for $2.50. These stalls are cash-only, so bring small bills.

๐Ÿ› Must-Try Dishes
Don't miss the national dish, riz et pois (rice and beans), often served with meat or fish, priced around $8 at local eateries like Chez Marie. Another favorite is bouillon, a hearty stew with beef, plantains, and vegetables, available at Le Gourmet for $12. For dessert, try pain patate (sweet potato pudding) for $5 at the Carrefour Market bakery.

๐Ÿ˜๏ธ Neighborhood Gems
Head to the Bizoton neighborhood for Chez Toto at 101 Rue Bizoton, known for its grilled lobster at $25, open Wednesday to Sunday from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM. In the Thor area, La Kaye at 202 Rue Thor serves excellent conch in creole sauce for $14. These spots are a bit off the beaten path but worth the trip.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Budget-Friendly Eats
For affordable meals, try the lunch specials at Carrefour Market food court, where you can get a plate of rice, beans, and chicken for $6 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Street vendors sell pate kode (fried dough with filling) for $1.50, a perfect snack. Local bakeries offer fresh bread and pastries for under $2.

๐ŸŒ™ Evening Dining Spots
Le Gourmet at 789 Avenue du Soleil transforms into a romantic dinner spot with live music on Fridays from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM. For a casual evening, the night market on Boulevard des Champs is lively until midnight, offering grilled seafood and cold drinks. Chez Marie also stays open until 10:00 PM for late diners.

๐ŸšŒ Getting Around
Carrefour is served by tap-taps (colorful buses) that run along Route Nationale #2 for about $0.50 per ride. Taxis are also available, with fares starting at $5 for short trips within the area. Most food spots are within walking distance of the main road, but wear comfortable shoes as sidewalks can be uneven.

good list but one correction, Chez Marie is cash only now, they stopped taking cards sometime last year. found that out the hard way with a plate of tassot already on the table.

also if you're doing the night market on Boulevard des Champs, go on a thursday instead of the weekend. way less crowded, same stalls, and the lady doing bannann peze actually has time to fry them fresh instead of pulling from the pile.

forgot to mention the little bakery on Route Nationale #2 just past the Bizoton turn, they do pain patate too but with a bit of nutmeg on top that the market one doesnt have. like 3 bucks.

thanks for putting this together, the street food section is spot on. one thing i'd add on the Bizoton side: Chez Toto's lobster is great but the lambi griot there is what i actually go back for, around $12, and it doesn't get mentioned enough. also the tap tap drivers on RN2 won't stop at the Bizoton turn after dark, you have to get off at the previous stop and walk the last stretch, so plan for that if you're doing a late dinner there.

solid rundown, saved me a lot of guessing. one thing i'd add is the guy selling soup joumou out of a big pot near the Thor market on sunday mornings, like 4 bucks a bowl and its better than anything you'll sit down for. technically its a new year thing but he does it most weekends now. also the tap tap fare went up to 75 cents on RN2 last i checked, drivers just round it and dont give change so keep coins on u

nice work putting this together, saving me a ton of planning time. one thing id add is the marche central actually has a second hall behind the main one that most tourists miss, way better for cheese & charcuterie and no crowds. also the museum is free first sunday of the month if ur trip lines up, worth checking

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

solid writeup but a few things id tweak. the flea market on place du marche is actually saturday mornings only like u said, but get there before 9 if u want the good vintage stuff, by 11 its mostly picked over and the tourist tat takes over. also line 12 to the zoo is more like 40 min with traffic, not 30, so budget extra if ur going on a weekday. and if ur at the waterfront for sunset skip la riviere and walk 5 min down to the little stands near quai nord, half the price for basically the same moules

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

good stuff, this is way more organized than anything i put together when i went. one thing though, Day 2 is pretty packed with the two museums and the bus ride in between. if u only got time for one, skip the Modern Art Center and spend the extra hour at the History Museum, the medieval section upstairs is the real highlight and most ppl breeze past it. also Chez Marcel gets slammed after 8pm, either book ahead or go early around 7 or ur waiting at the bar for a while.
